Game time, TV, set for Arkansas’ matchup with Aggies in Arlington

The 77th meeting between Arkansas and Texas A&M is on the big stage for the first time in awhile.

It was announced Monday morning the game will be at 2:30 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and will be broadcast nationally on CBS.

The Hogs and Aggies have played every year since 2009, with it being a conference game since Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012.

Arkansas has a 41-33-3 edge in the all-time series, but the Aggies have won each of the last nine matchups. Texas A&M picked up a 42-31 win at home against Arkansas in 2020.

The move to a national broadcast became realistic Saturday night when the Aggies managed to pull out a narrow road win late against Colorado while the Hogs throttled Texas.

A&M was ranked No. 7 in the national polls Sunday while Arkansas made its first appearance this year at No. 20.

Arkansas won each of the first three games against Texas A&M at this location in 2009-2011, but the Aggies have taken the last five starting in 2014.

A&M won in College Station in 2012 and the next year in Fayetteville.

To summarize all of that, the Hogs haven’t beaten the Aggies since they joined the SEC with the 2012 season, although they have been close, losing several times in overtime.

After getting 16 tackles against Texas, Henry picks up national award

Hayden Henry’s dominant effort in Arkansas’ win against No. 15 Texas has earned him national defensive player of the week honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Henry made a career-high 15 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, in the Razorbacks’ 40-21 win on Saturday night. It was his first career double-digit tackle performance, also marking the first time he has led the Hogs in tackles for a game.

The redshirt senior linebacker is the fourth Arkansas student-athlete to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since 2004. Henry is the first since former Razorback quarterback Ryan Mallett (Sept. 19, 2010).

Henry and the Hogs are back in action next weekend, hosting Georgia Southern inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, on SEC Network.

Hogs break dry spell in rankings, landing in all three Sunday

Arkansas caught the attention of the Associated Press on Saturday night.

The Razorbacks’ 41-20 win over No. 15 Texas was enough to propel the Hogs into the top 25 for the first time since 2016. Arkansas enters Week 3 ranked No. 20 in the country in the AP poll. They are No. 24 in the coaches poll, but have moved up to No. 18 in the ESPN Power Index.

It is the first 2-0 start for Arkansas since 2016, which marks the longest period of time not being ranked since 1937-46. It’s been a long, dry spell.

Behind a balanced rushing attack, the Razorbacks dominated the Texas’ front seven on nearly every play. Four different running backs scored at least one touchdowns, while five different players rushed for over 40 plus yards.

Quarterback KJ Jefferson went 14 of 19 passing for 138 yards, while tacking on an extra 73 yards with his legs. The Razorbacks outscored Texas in nearly every category on the night, including time of possession, first downs and third down efficiency.

The new ranking could have massive implications following a Week 3 matchup against Georgia Southern (1-1). Should they win, Arkansas would be ranked against No. 7 Texas A&M for the Southwest Classic at AT&T Stadium.

This would be the first time the Razorbacks were ranked for the former Southwest rivalry since 2016. The Aggies improved to 4-0 following a 45-24 win in Jerry World.

Among programs in the SEC, Alabama and Georgia remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.  Texas A&M dropped outside the top five following a 10-7 victory on the road against Colorado. Other ranked teams from the conference include Florida (No. 11), Ole Miss (No. 17) and Auburn (No. 22).
