Williams named co-player of week in SEC after double-double week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Jaylin Williams is maybe the most consistent player on Arkansas’ team and he’s been getting better.
Monday, he was named co-Player of the Week for the SEC along with Auburn’s Walker Kessler.
Williams averaged 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds to help Arkansas extend its current conference win streak to four with wins last week over South Carolina and Texas A&M last week..
He had a career-high with 19 points and made a career-high 9-of-10 at the free throw line in a win over South Carolina. He added a career-high six steals while recording his fourth double-double in five games in Saturday’s overtime win over Texas A&M.
Overall versus Texas A&M, Williams became the first major conference Division I player to have at least 14 points, 11 rebounds, six steals, three blocked shots and three assists since Florida State’s Chris Singleton reached those marks versus UNC Greensboro in November 2010, according to Sports Reference.
Williams against South Carolina
• Only played 26 minutes due to foul trouble but still scored a career-high 19 thanks to hitting a career-high 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
• Was one rebound shy of a double-double.
• Only played 7:22 in the first half and 18:58 in the second. Was +24 for the game and +24 in the second half as Arkansas outscored the Gamecocks by 23 in the period (42-19). Had 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a steal in the second half alone.
Williams against Texas A&M
• Record his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
• Added a career-high six steals with three assists and three blocked shots.
• After a 9-0 A&M run to get to within one (51-50), converted an old-fashion 3-point play to end the spurt.
• With Arkansas up one in overtime, had a dunk for a 3-point lead, 71-68 at 2:31.
• Later (0:42), A&M hit a 3-pointer to get to within one (72-71). Williams then hit a jumper with 13 seconds left on the game clock (two ticks on the shot clock) to put the Hogs up 3.

Spencer, Ramirez pace Hogs to big win over Mississippi State
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors didn’t think Mississippi State would be playing a lot of folks Sunday afternoon so he decided he wouldn’t.
It worked out for the Razorbacks in a 74-54 win.
“We did have a shorter rotation today,” Neighbors said later. “I challenged each of our kids that have been playing big minutes, ‘can you play eight-10 more minutes?’ We said if they’re not going to sub, we’re not going to sub.”
Obviously, it worked really well.
We got in a really good flow, we were really connected defensively,” he said.

Arkansas improved to 13-6 overall (3-3 in SEC play). The Bulldogs fell to 11-7 (2-4).
Staying around .500 is the goal in what is a balanced SEC this season.
“We all know the value this year of hovering around .500,” Neighbors said. “Mississippi State is extremely dangerous.”
The Hogs, who have now won three of their last four games, played a strong defense that held the Bulldogs to 36% shooting from the field.
Freshman guard Samara Spencer dropped in a career-best 19 points in the win.
She was sizzling from beyond the arc, hitting five of her eight attempts from long distance. Spencer scored 18 against Alabama on Thursday, hitting four three’s in that game. Redshirt senior guard Amber Ramirez also had 17 points.

The first half was a grind with the teams going into halftime tied at 28.
Arkansas separated itself in the third quarter with the Hogs hitting 11 of their 18 field goal attempts, including four three’s in the frame, dominating the period, 32-17.
Spencer keyed the big run, hitting three of her five three-pointers in the period, all before the six-minute mark.
The freshman finished with 10 points in the period and Ramirez added nine.
Defensively, Sasha Goforth was awesome for the Hogs in the second half, holding Bulldog star Rickea Jackson to just four points after the intermission.

Hogs keys
• Goforth put up a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while guarding Jackson.
• She also posted two more blocks in the win, her 11th game this season with multiple rejections.
• Makayla Daniels was steady as ever, scoring 15 points, pulling down five boards, and dishing three assists.
• Rylee Langerman made an impact off the pine, going for four points, six boards and two steals.

The Hogs go back-to-back at Bud Walton Arena, hosting No. 11 LSU on Thursday night.
That game is set to tip at 7:30 p.m. and will be aired on the SEC Network.
