FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 5 Arkansas (36-7) silenced in-state opponent Little Rock (18-22) for the second consecutive game with a 4-0 shutout win Wednesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium to complete its double midweek series sweep.
With the win, the Hogs claimed their fifth shutout of the season and improved to 11-1 in midweek contests.
Arkansas will conclude the midweek portion of the 2025 regular season on the road against Missouri State at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hammons Field, home of St. Louis Cardinals Triple-A affiliate Springfield Cardinals, in Springfield, Mo.
Six Razorback pitchers combined to toss Wednesday’s 15-strikeout shutout. Colin Fisher started and spun two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts before giving way to the bullpen, which fired seven clean frames with 13 punchouts.
Steele Eaves (2.0 IP, 1 SO), Cole Gibler (2.0 IP, 6 SO), Ben Bybee (1.0 IP, 2 SO), Christian Foutch (1.0 IP, 2 SO) and Will McEntire (1.0 IP, 2 SO) worked in relief of Fisher to secure Arkansas’ second shutout in as many nights.
Eaves, the true freshman right-hander from Lonoke, Ark., earned his first career win with his two scoreless frames out of the bullpen.
The Razorbacks opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on a bases-loaded walk followed by a wild pitch, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage without putting the ball in play.
Arkansas’ two-run lead would hold up until the bottom of the seventh, when Wehiwa Aloy crushed his team-leading 16th home run of the season over the wall in right field.
Aloy, who finished the ballgame 2-for-5 with a solo blast, raised his season slash line to a team-best .379/.459/.736 to go along with his 16 homers and 48 RBI in 43 games.
The Razorback shortstop leads the team in nearly every major offensive category, including runs (61), hits (69), doubles (15), home runs (16), extra-base hits (32) and total bases (134).
Offensively, Charles Davalan also chipped in with his 22nd multi-hit game of the season, two behind Aloy’s team-leading 24 multi-hit performances.
The Razorback outfielder went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Wednesday night’s shutout win, extending Arkansas’ lead from three to four runs with his two-out RBI single to right center in the bottom of the eighth.
Up next, Arkansas hits the road for Gainesville, Fla., to square off against Florida from April 25-27 in an SEC weekend series.
First pitch in the opener between the Hogs and Gators is 5:30 p.m. Friday on SEC Network+.
