It’s time to start another streak.

After not making a three-pointer for the first time since 1989 against Texas, Arkansas plays the second straight game at Bud Walton Arena, hosting Texas A&M.

The Hogs rolled to a 75-59 win over South Carolina on Wednesday night to even their SEC record at 3-3 after starting 0-3 in league play.

Game Notes

• This will be the 163rd meeting between Arkansas and Texas A&M and the second in 14 days. The Razorbacks own a 104-58 advantage in the series. Arkansas leads, 59-15, in games played at Fayetteville.

• The Hogs have a slight 9-7 advantage — including a 7-1 record in Bud Walton Arena — since A&M joined the SEC for the 2012-13 season.

• Two Saturdays ago, Arkansas was down 17 midway through the second half but clawed its way back to make it a one-point game with 1:38 left. However, Texas A&M answered with a 3-pointer and made its free throws down the stretch to win 86-81. Arkansas was led by JD Notae, who made five 3-pointers and scored a season-high 31 points – his best point production as a Razorback.

• Texas A&M is one of six teams that Arkansas has played over 100 times and one of three teams the Razorbacks have at least 100 wins against. The Aggies are the Razorbacks’ most common opponent with 162 games played in the series which dates back to Arkansas’ first season of basketball (1923-24).

• Arkansas was 27-of-33 at the free throw line versus South Carolina on Tuesday. With that, the Razorbacks now lead the NCAA in free throws made at 311 and ranks second in free throw attempts with 422.

• Arkansas has held its last three opponents to under 60 points and to little surprise has won all three. In fact, Arkansas is 16-0 under Musselman when holding opponents below 60 points.

Hogs’ quarterback has knee surgery Friday afternoon

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson had an unexpected arthroscopic knee surgery Friday afternoon.

A lot of Razorback fans were caught by surprise.

“Pray for me as I go into surgery this afternoon,” Jefferson posted on social media.

He originally suffered the injury on Sept. 25 in a 20-10 win over Texas A&M when he was shoved out of bounds by Aaron Hansford.

Jefferson limped most of the rest of that game and then all the way through the Outback Bowl win over Penn State on New Year’s Day.

With spring practice scheduled to start March 13, nobody knows whether he will be limited in those drills because of the surgery.

If it was a simple cleanup procedure the odds are good he’ll be able to do most of it as quarterbacks typically do not have contact in the spring.

Jefferson rushed for a team-high 664 yards and six touchdowns and completed 198 of 294 passes for 2,676 yards, with 21 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jefferson had a streak of 171 consecutive passes without an interception, the second longest in school history.

Heading into the 2022 season, Jefferson is one of the top four quarterbacks in the SEC with Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young of Alabama, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker and Mississippi State’s Will Rogers.

Hogs start fast, cruise to lopsided win over Crimson Tide

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — It was never close and Arkansas 99-71 win over Alabama was more lopsided than that.

The Razorbacks (12-6, 2-3) got its first road win crushing the Crimson Tide (10-8, 1-6).

Alabama’s last lead in the game came with 8:51 in the first quarter. Arkansas caught fire from deep against Alabama, hitting 15 of their 29 three-pointers, a new season-high.

“Our most complete effort of the SEC season,” Hogs coach Mike Neighbors said later.

A big part was the return of Erynn Barnum, who had been out since a knee injury back on Dec. 5 against California.

“Erynn being back gave us kinda everybody back in their normal roles,” Neighbors said. “As a result we played together, we played hard. It was noticeable.”

Amber Ramirez led the way, nearly triple-doubling against the Tide. Ramirez finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. She hit five three’s, her third time already in conference play hitting five or more triples.

The lead guard duo of Samara Spencer and Makayla Daniels chipped in with 18 points each.

Turning point

The Hogs scored well in the first quarter, totaling 21 points and their defense was suffocating, holding the Tide to just 11 points.

Arkansas held Alabama to just 25 percent shooting in the frame and forced six Alabama turnovers. The Hogs led at halftime,44-27, and put the game away in the third quarter.

Barnum, who only played 10 minutes in the game had six points in the third quarter.

Hogs highlights

• Spencer’s 18 points was a career best for her. So were her four made three-pointers.

• Ramirez’s seven assists in the game matched her career-high (seven at Kentucky in 2018).

• Jersey Wolfenbarger got into double-figures with 12 points.

• Sasha Goforth also returned to double figures, her third time in five SEC games.

• Barnum scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds and nabbed a steal.

Next game

The Hogs return to Bud Walton Arena on Sunday afternoon against Mississippi State. That game is set for at 3 p.m. Hogs on the SEC Network.
