Could Dan Enos getting another 4-star KJ work out as well as last?

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — New Arkansas offensive coordinator Dan Enos has secured his first big quarterback commitment.

And it’s another four-star from another state named KJ.

Maybe he saw the last one worked out pretty well with current top quarterback KJ Jefferson.

This time it’s a four-star signal-caller out of Montgomery, Ala., named KJ Jackson that looks similar, but it will be ineresting to compare the early development of this one under Enos.

It took awhile before Jefferson caught up. Of course, the coaching staff when he was a freshman probably left a lot to be desired at the SEC level, considering they were shown the door before he finished that freshman year.

He made the announcement at 5:30 on Easter afternoon.

“When picking a college I really wanted somewhere that felt like home,” Jackson told 247Sports. “Coach Pitt and coach (Dan) Enos both made it the priority to make me feel at home. Also, being able to play under a coach like Coach Enos with 13 quarterbacks in the NFL is an opportunity that is hard to pass up.”

Jackson is the No. 391 player in the country on the 247Sports.com composite ranking, the 24th best quarterback in country and 23rd in Alabama.

He’ll join some other quarterbacks already on campus with Jacolby Criswell having 2-3 years left with the Hogs and Malachi Singleton an incoming freshman already on campus.

There will probably be more and the numbers show you won’t make it through a season in the SEC for 12 games plus a bowl game without injuries. There are exceptions to that premise, but they are few and far apart.

Eric Musselman lands Houston guard Tramon Mark out of portal

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Eric Musselman is stockpiling guards.

Apparently the Razorbacks picked up a big commitment from Houston guard Tramon Mark, who is also going through the NBA Draft process, but is expected to stay for at least another year.

The 6-5, 195-pound wing guard from Dickinson, Texas (we’ll save you the trouble of looking that up, it’s a town I-45 runs smack through going from Houston to Galveston), started every game for Kelvin Sampson’s team that was a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament last year.

Mark averaged 10.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 2022-23 while shooting 39% from the field, 32.8% beyond the three-point line and 78.4% at the free throw line as a redshirt sophomore.

The No. 5 player in the CBS Sports transfer portal rankings chose Musselman and the Hogs over Florida, Kansas State and Texas A&M.

He is the second commitment this week after Washington guard Kenyon Menifield committed last Tuesday.

With now three of the highly-ranked freshman class coming back (Derrian Ford, Barry Dunning and Joseph Pinion), it’s clear Musselman is recruiting current players.

Nick Smith Jr., and Ricky Council IV are declared firmly for the NBA Draft while Davonte Davis is dipping his toe in the water to check the feedback he gets, but could return.

There has been absolutely no word from freshman point guard Anthony Black (although he was in attendance at the softball game Saturday) and that was even put on social media from Eric Musselman.

No guesses there or on freshman forward Jordan Walsh, who has been all over the place with his social media and interviews after the Hogs were eliminated by eventual national champion UConn in the Sweet 16.
