Robinett provides some surprising power as Hogs sweep Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Powered by five round-trippers, including Reese Robinett’s two-homer, six-RBI performance at the plate, No. 11 Arkansas (40-9, 17-7 SEC) completed its weekend series sweep of No. 1 Texas (38-8, 19-5) with a 13-8 win Saturday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium to match its best 24-game SEC start for the sixth time in program history.

With the win, the Razorbacks secured their first weekend series sweep of the Longhorns in program history as well as their first sweep against the country’s top-ranked team since a sweep against No. 1 LSU in 2001 at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Saturday’s win also marked the Hogs’ 30th victory inside the friendly confines of Baum-Walker Stadium this year, which clinched their seventh 30-win season at Baum-Walker Stadium since the venue opened in 1996 in process.

Arkansas, the first team in the country to hit the 40 overall win mark this season, improved to 17-7 in SEC play with Saturday’s series-sweeping win, matching its best 24-game SEC start for the sixth time in program history – a feat the team also accomplished during the 1999, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 campaigns.

Excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, the Razorbacks are the only team in the country with 40 or more wins in each of the last eight full seasons.

In addition to Robinett’s two blasts, Kuhio Aloy (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI), Justin Thomas Jr. (1-for-2, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB) and Charles Davalan (1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB) also homered in the win.

Wehiwa Aloy, meanwhile, led the Arkansas offense with three hits, raising his team-leading season slash line to .376/.464/.718 through 49 games on the year.

Texas opened the scoring with a two-out three-run homer in the top half of the third to take a 3-0 lead before Kuhio Aloy’s two-run blast in the bottom half of the inning pulled Arkansas within one.

Razorback starter Landon Beidelschies struck out four but was tagged for four runs on four hits and two walks over his four innings of work on the mound.

Down by a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, Robinett hit a game-tying two-run homer, his first of two on the day, before Thomas Jr. clobbered a go-ahead two-run blast, his eighth of the season, later in the inning.

Arkansas’ 6-4 lead would not last long, however, as Texas responded with three runs in the top half of the fifth to pull ahead by one.

Robinett would single-handedly erase the 7-6 deficit in the fifth, belting a three-run homer in his very next at-bat to put the Hogs back in front.

Before today, the Razorback infielder had not homered in a game since March 24, 2023, at LSU.

Davalan’s three-run blast in the seventh, Arkansas’ fifth and final homer of the afternoon, was the final blow, extending the Hogs’ lead to 12-7.

Robinett collected his career-high sixth RBI in the eighth on a groundout to put the game away.

In relief, Dylan Carter earned the win to improve to 5-0 on the year, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Christian Foutch locked down the final 1.1 innings and struck out a pair to seal Arkansas’ sweep against Texas.

Up next, the Razorbacks will travel to Baton Rouge, La., for a SEC weekend series against the Tigers.

First pitch in the series opener between Arkansas and LSU is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, on SEC Network+.

Wood’s strong outing jump-starts Hogs to series-clinching win over Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas’ pitching staff, led by Gage Wood’s career-high nine punchouts, combined for 15 strikeouts and overpowered Texas’ offense for the second night in a row to lead No. 11 Arkansas (39-9, 16-7 SEC) to a 6-1 series-clinching win against No. 1 Texas (38-7, 19-4 SEC) Friday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.

The Razorbacks secured their first weekend series against win the Longhorns since 1989 when the two teams were Southwest Conference foes.

With a win in tomorrow’s series finale to clinch a weekend series sweep, Arkansas, now 16-7 through 23 games of SEC play, can match its best 24-game SEC start (17-7) for the sixth time in program history.

Friday night’s win also marked the Hogs’ 29th victory inside the friendly confines of Baum-Walker Stadium this season.

With one more victory, Arkansas can clinch its seventh 30-win season at Baum-Walker since the venue opened in 1996.

Wood, making his third start back on the mound since returning from injury, set the tone with his four innings of one-run ball and career-high nine strikeouts.

The hard-throwing right-hander limited the Longhorns to just two hits, including a solo homer, and did not issue a walk, securing his first win of the season with his strong outing Friday night.

Arkansas broke through against Texas starter Luke Harrison in the bottom of the second with four runs to take control of the game early.

Brent Iredale led off the inning with a solo home run, his 12th of the season, before Kuhio Aloy cleared the bases with a two-out double to left center, bringing home three runs to extend the Razorbacks’ lead to 4-0.

The Longhorns would answer with a solo home run in the top half of the fourth against Wood, the only damage he suffered during the night, to cut their deficit to three, but the Hogs took advantage of a two-out bases-loaded hit batsman as well as a two-out bases loaded walk in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, to push their lead to 6-1.

Staked with a lead, the Razorback bullpen held strong. In relief of Wood, Gabe Gaeckle (3.0 IP, 5 SO) and Aiden Jimenez (2.0, 1 SO) combined for five shutout innings with six strikeouts to close out the game and lock down the series win.

With his game-high three RBI, Aloy increased his team-leading RBI count to 63 while moving his season slash line to .363/.436/.626 through 44 games on the year.

Iredale, meanwhile, improved his slash line to .298/.459/.603 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI, both of which are tied for second most on the Razorbacks, through 48 games this season.

Root’s strong outing plus big hits lifts Hogs to shutout over No. 1 Texas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Behind Zach Root’s career-high 11 strikeouts, No. 11 Arkansas (38-9, 15-7 SEC) spun a combined two-hit shutout to roll past No. 1 Texas (38-6, 19-3 SEC), 9-0, in Thursday night’s series opener at Baum-Walker Stadium.

With their series-opening win, the Razorbacks improved to 28-3 at home this year to clinch their eighth consecutive season with 28 or more victories inside the friendly confines of Baum-Walker Stadium: 2017 (29 wins), 2018 (34 wins), 2019 (33 wins), 2021 (30 wins), 2022 (28 wins), 2023 (32 wins), 2024 (34 wins) and 2025 (28 wins).

The Hogs will look to secure a series win against their longtime Southwest Conference foe tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Friday on SEC Network with Karl Ravech (play-by-play) and Kyle Peterson (analyst) on the call.

Root was sharp from the start Thursday night, striking out the side in the top half of the first and retiring the first six batters he faced to begin the game.

The left-hander, who allowed only two hits and issued a pair of walks, worked a career-long eight innings and racked up a career-high 11 strikeouts in his dominant performance on the mound.

The Razorback offense provided Root with plenty of run support, beginning with Carson Boles’ two-run homer in the bottom of the second.

Boles’ blast, his second of the season, put Arkansas ahead, 2-0, and the Hogs never looked back.

Cam Kozeal’s two-out, three-run shot to right center in the third extended the advantage to 5-0 before the Razorbacks broke the game open with a four-spot in the fourth.

Justin Thomas Jr.’s one-out RBI single set the table for Wehiwa Aloy’s two-run double and Kuhio Aloy’s RBI single with two outs in the inning as Arkansas took a commanding 9-0 lead.

With his three-RBI night, Kozeal is now slashing .362/.409/.656 with 11 homers and 52 RBI on the year.

Wehiwa Aloy, meanwhile, improved his team-leading season slash line to .369/.454/.723 thanks to his multi-RBI performance.

Veteran right-hander Will McEntire secured the Hogs’ combined two-hit shutout with his scoreless inning of relief in the ninth.

McEntire worked around a walk and struck out three to lock down Arkansas’ 9-0 series-opening shutout win.
