Razorbacks come close, but can’t get past Ole Miss in road match Thursday
OXFORD, Miss. — Arkansas’ men’s tennis team fell on Thursday evening, 4-3, to Ole Miss and now returns home Saturday after three consecutive matches away from Fayetteville.
Arkansas jumped out to a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with consecutive wins on courts one and three.
Oscar Mesquida and his partner Adam Sanjurjo made quick work of Filip Kraljevic and Karlo Kranic for a 6-3 win, while Alex Reco and Jose Dominguez Alonso secured the point with a 6-2 win over Fabian Fallert and Cotter Willson.
Ole Miss evened things in singles action on the second court, as Filip Kraljevic def. Adam Sanjurjo 6-2, 6-2.
The Rebels would take a brief 2-1 lead as No. 52 Oscar Mesquida dropped his match to No. 70 Tim Sandkaulen 7-5, 6-2.
Enrique Paya immediately tied things up with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on court five. The Razorbacks dropped consecutive three-set matches on courts six and four as the Rebels clinched the match.
Josh Howard-Tripp would win by retirement in three sets to give the match a 4-3 final.
Arkansas returns to host No. 8 Mississippi State and UAPB in a Saturday doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.

Smith advances to 400-meter hurdles’ final at Texas Relays on Thursday
AUSTIN, Texas — The lone competitor on the day for Arkansas, freshman J’Alyiea Smith advanced to the finals on day two of the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Smith backed into the blocks with a personal-best of 1:03.32 and crossed the line with a new one, as the Cincinnati, Ohio native finished prelims with a time of 59.68 in the 400-meter hurdles to grab the final spot into tomorrow’s final.
The time is a personal-best for Smith and is the 10th-fastest time in program history surpassing Andrea Bell’s time of 59.82 from 2002.
Arkansas returns to Mike A. Myers tomorrow morning for day three of the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The Razorbacks will also be in action on the west coast as Arkansas competes at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
Sullins extends school record; Moore finishes as runner-up at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas — Arkansas completed day two at the Texas Relays with a new school record in the hammer throw and a runner-up finish in the decathlon Thursday afternoon.
Moore entered day two holding a 95-point lead over Texas A&M’s Nathan Hite with five events left in the competition.
The senior opened day two with a lifetime-best of 14.50 in the 110-meter hurdles, improving upon his previous best of 14.59 from last week’s Arkansas Spring Invitational at John McDonnell Field.
After an opening scratch in the discus throw, Moore was able to record a mark of 38.49m (126-3) on his second attempt that served as his best following a scratch on his third attempt.
Passing on the first five bars, Moore entered the competition clearing 4.20m (13-9.25) on his second attempt to get himself on the board. Moore would clear one more bar (4.30m/14-1.25) before three misses at 4.40m (14-5.25).
A huge PR of 59.19m (194-2) in the javelin throw yielded Moore a five-point lead over Texas A&M’s Hite with one event to go.
The 1,500-meters saw Moore finish in 5:03.72 to finish with a two-day total of 7,661-pts that currently sits as the second-best total in the NCAA this season. A second-place finish in the decathlon capped action at Texas Relays for Moore.
Erich Sullins entered the meet with a personal-best and school record mark of 63.96m (209-10), that quickly became a thing of the past. Every single throw from Thursday’s competition surpassed the old mark with his best throw of 67.85m (222-7) becoming the new school record.
Sullins finished fifth-overall in the event and is currently No. 8 in the NCAA and No. 2 in the SEC.
The Razorback duo of Nick Hilson and Tre’ Bien Gilbert attacked prelims in the 400-meter hurdles finishing 10th and 56th, respectively with times of 52.32 and 55.92.
Hilson was the first one out, missing the finals by a mere tenth of a second (.10) while Gilbert’s time was a collegiate best for the Freshman from Converse, Texas.

UA’s Board of Trustees votes to rename court at Bud Walton Arena for Nolan
In a move some feel is long overdue, the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees on Thursday morning voted unanimously to rename the basketball court at Bud Walton Arena as Nolan Richardson Court.

The move to rename the floor had started over the last several months with a state legislator introducing a bill to do it.
After honoring the 1994 National Championship team Richardson coached at a game in February, the board announced it would consider the matter in March.
