Davion Thompson has been one of the top point guards in the 2027 class all year, but he won’t wait until 2027 to help a college team.
He’s reclassifying to 2026 and joining Arkansas basketball right away.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard plays his high school ball at Link Academy in Branson, Mo.
247Sports ranks him as the No. 21 overall player and the No. 5 point guard in the entire 2027 class, while On3 had him rated No. 23 overall before his class jump.
His industry rating of .9916 makes him the 12th-highest rated commit in modern Arkansas history, just ahead of program legend Bobby Portis.
Calipari and his staff worked hard to land him.
Thompson picked Arkansas on June 10 over offers from Michigan, Vanderbilt and Baylor.
A trip to Mexico sealed the deal
Once Thompson set his top four list, Calipari didn’t sit back and wait. He flew to Leon, Mexico, to watch Thompson play for Team USA at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, and he was the only college coach who showed up for the game.

Team USA rolled past Argentina 88-58 that day, and Thompson chipped in 11 points off the bench.
He later played 14 minutes in the tournament final against Canada, scoring five points as Team USA fell 67-65 for the silver medal.
This spring Thompson turned heads on the Nike EYBL circuit with his Meanstreets squad, averaging 21.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists a game while making more than half of his three-point attempts.
Analysts have pointed to his footwork and his knack for changing speeds off the dribble to break down defenders.
On3 tracked similar production at the Peach Jam, where Thompson is putting up 20.8 points and five assists a game while hitting 37.5% from deep through four games.
Friday’s reclassification announcement means Thompson skips the rest of his prep career and steps straight into Bud Walton Arena colors this season.
He’s the fifth five-star prospect Calipari has locked up for the 2026 cycle, joining Jordan Smith Jr., Abdou Toure, JJ Andrews and Miikka Muurinen.
Teammate commit Caleb Ourigou may also reclassify, which would fill out a 15-man Razorbacks roster.
The Hogs now have a proven floor general ready to run the offense from day one instead of waiting a full year for him to arrive.
