HOGS BLOG: Razorbacks come on strong in fourth for 28-6 win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The weather may be great, but neither Arkansas or Kent State seem to be playing very well in Saturday’s game at Razorback Stadium before a considerably less than packed house on a sun-drenched afternoon.

It is the second game of the year for both teams as the Razorbacks blasted Western Carolina last week at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, 56-13, but now is looking to get some things corrected and going.

1Q 3:24: Kent State used 6:52 off the clock to cover 51 yards against the Hogs’ defense that doesn’t seem that particularly sharp in the early going and Andrew Glass drilled a 48-yard field goal for an early lead probably nobody thought could happen, much less would. Golden Flashes 3, Hogs 0

1Q 1:12: Hogs’ linebacker Antonio Grier intercepted a pass by Kent State’s Mike Alaimo at the 25-yard line and could have walked into the end zone on a return to finally give them some life in a game where some fans were probably starting to wiggle a little. Hogs 7, Golden Flashes 3

The only Razorback having a good game is Hunter Yurachek who’s running people on the field during the interminable timeouts bringing out various dignitaries. The included the latest Hall of Honor honorees with former coach and player Houston Nutt, who drew the second-loudest cheer from the crowd behind Felix Jones.

2Q 6:29: The Hogs’ defense bent nearly doubled over backwards as Kent State marches down the field again, using 10 plays to cover 52 yards and eat up 5:48 of the second quarter before stiffening. The Golden Flashes got bast the 20 when the Hogs’ defense finally took things serious and shut them down. Glass kicked a 38-yard field goal. Hogs 7, Golden Flashes 6

2Q 2:20: The Hogs strung together an eight-play, 75-yard drive that wasn’t looking terrible until the final play. The ball got loose on the snap from center Beaux Limmer, quarterback KJ Jefferson just did a one-hand stab of the ball and threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Andrew Armstrong, who was all alone in the back of the end zone. Hogs 14, Golden Flashes 6

3Q 5:50: Now Razorback fans can breathe a little better. KJ Jefferson capped a 91-yard drive in 12 plays with a 1-yard sneak into the end zone. At times, KJ appeared to just take things on his shoulders and down the field they kept going. Hogs 21, Golden Flashes 6

4Q 10:16: KJ throws another touchdown pass to Armstrong in the corner of the end zone from 9 yards out and it’s finally starting to look a little comfortable for the Hogs. Hogs 28, Golden Flashes 6
