FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Vanderbilt had sacked somebody in 10 straight games before Arkansas showed up Saturday.
The Commodores didn’t get one this time, and Kash Courtney is a big reason why.
The Arkansas sophomore was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week on Monday morning, two days after the game. The league office gave him the award after the Razorbacks won 31-21 on the road at Vanderbilt.
Saturday was his first start of the season, too. He hadn’t been in the starting lineup for any of the Hogs’ earlier games.
A sack happens when a defender tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. The offense loses yards, and the guys up front usually take the blame.
Nobody sacked the Hogs’ quarterback all game.
Arkansas hadn’t gone a full game without allowing a sack since Sept. 13, 2025, at Ole Miss.
Vanderbilt’s own streak had been running since Nov. 25, 2025. That covered 10 games in a row with at least one sack. It ended Saturday.
The run game showed up too
The line also opened holes for 187 rushing yards, the Razorbacks’ best total of the season.
You’d have to go back to Nov. 22, 2025, at Texas to find a bigger day on the ground for Arkansas. The Hogs ran for 188 yards in that one, nearly 11 months earlier.
So yes, they missed tying it by one yard. Somebody on the sideline probably noticed.
Arkansas finished with 438 yards of offense. No SEC opponent has given up more to the Razorbacks this season, and this one came on the road.
The win was also the Hogs’ first in SEC play this year. Before Saturday, Arkansas hadn’t beaten a conference team this fall.
Courtney wasn’t the only one blocking, of course. He’s just the one whose name was on Monday’s announcement from the league.
A rare honor for Hogs linemen
Courtney is the 17th offensive lineman in Arkansas history to win an SEC weekly award.
The last Razorback lineman to get one was Fernando Carmona, who won it on Oct. 7, 2024.
Hogs linemen went a little more than two years between honors.
Courtney is from Carthage, Texas, and he’s in his second season in Fayetteville.
Offensive linemen don’t show up in many highlight clips. Weekly awards like this one are among the few places their work gets noticed by name.
The SEC picks one offensive lineman from across the league each week. This week, the pick came from Arkansas.
Up next: Missouri
The Razorbacks are off this week. They won’t play again until Oct. 31.
They’ll be back home at Razorback Stadium that day to face Missouri. A kickoff time for that game hasn’t been announced.
Arkansas will have two weeks to get ready for the Tigers and they will be the next defense to take a crack at the Hogs’ line.
