Van Horn lands veteran Tennessee infielder Marin before portal closes

The transfer portal closes Tuesday at midnight, and Arkansas baseball made sure to use every last minute of it.

Former Tennessee infielder Manny Marin committed to the Razorbacks on Tuesday, pushing Dave Van Horn’s portal class to 13 total additions for the 2027 season.

Marin isn’t someone the Hogs are gambling on. In six career games against Arkansas over the past two seasons, the Florida native tallied five hits and two RBIs.

Van Horn’s staff knows this kid can play … they’ve watched him do it at their expense.

Fourth portal infielder for the Hogs

Marin gives Arkansas four infielders from the transfer portal this cycle.

He joins shortstop Ben Cleary from Santa Clara, third baseman Wills Maginnis from Georgia State and third baseman Dawson Bryce from Charlotte.

If Bryce doesn’t return — and there’s some expectation that he may not — Marin slots right in as a capable replacement with legitimate SEC experience.

Part of what makes Marin valuable to Van Horn is his versatility.

He’s capable of playing both third base and shortstop, which is exactly the kind of positional flexibility the Hogs prefer when they’re adding infield pieces through the portal.

Two seasons of SEC production back up commitment

Marin didn’t arrive at Tennessee as an unknown.

He came in rated as the No. 23 shortstop in the country and the No. 3 player in Florida by Perfect Game, and he was a top 100 nationally ranked player in the 2024 class.

Marin picked Tennessee over Clemson and Miami out of Westminster Christian School in Miami.

As a sophomore with the Volunteers in 2026, Marin hit .291 with a .485 slugging percentage in 55 games.

He posted 57 hits in 196 at-bats, including nine doubles, a triple and nine home runs, while driving in 43 runs. He also swiped five bags and struck out just 40 times against 12 walks.

The 64Analytics portal rankings peg him at No. 115 overall, and he earned a spot on the 2025 NCAA Knoxville Regional All-Tournament Team at third base after a big finish to his freshman year.

Marin is second former Vol in Hogs’ portal class

He won’t be the only ex-Tennessee player in the Arkansas clubhouse next season.

Right-handed pitcher Brayden Krenzel made the same move earlier in the cycle, making Marin the second former Volunteer the Hogs have pulled from Knoxville this portal window.

Marin is a draft-eligible sophomore — born April 22, 2005 — so he’ll be eligible for the upcoming MLB Draft.

He isn’t expected to be selected high enough to make signing a realistic option, which makes his path to Fayetteville a clean one. Off the field,

he’s majoring in Information Sciences and is the son of Jorge and Gabriela Marin. His brother Michael played college ball at Hillsboro Community College.

Key takeaways

  • Manny Marin commits to Arkansas as the Razorbacks’ 13th transfer portal addition, arriving with two seasons of SEC experience and the ability to play both third base and shortstop.
  • Marin posted a .291 average with nine home runs and 43 RBIs in 55 games for Tennessee in 2026 and was a 2025 Knoxville Regional All-Tournament selection as a freshman.
  • He’s the second former Volunteer — joining pitcher Brayden Krenzel — committed to the Hogs for 2027 and gives Arkansas a legitimate fallback option at third base if Dawson Bryce doesn’t return.
