Sealy knee injury will require surgery, timeline unknown for Hogs’ wing

Arkansas basketball fans hoping this isn’t a sign of anything.

For a fan base that is almost paranoid about that at times, the season hasn’t even started yet, and the Razorbacks are already dealing with a significant injury setback.

Sophomore wing Isaiah Sealy hurt his knee during a pickup basketball game on Friday.

Hogs coach John Calipari confirmed the news Saturday on X, saying surgery will be required, though no timetable has been set for the Springdale, Ark., native’s return.

“Isaiah Sealy hurt his knee playing pick up yesterday,” Calipari posted. “It is going to require surgery. We don’t know the timeline. I am disappointed for him because he has gotten so much better and spent time working on his game.”

The 6-foot-7 wing appeared in 19 games as a true freshman last season, finishing the year with 55 points, 11 assists, five blocked shots and five steals while shooting 21-of-28 from the free throw line. He was the No. 85 overall prospect nationally in the Class of 2025 per the 247Sports Composite.

Calipari notes Sealy’s improvement before setback

Sealy had his moments as a freshman, including a 12-point debut against Southern that was part of a historic showing for the Hogs’ freshmen class.

He also delivered 10 points against Jackson State and performed well in extended minutes against Fresno State and Mississippi State when injuries forced him into a bigger role.

The pickup game injury puts a pause on what figured to be a more prominent role for Sealy this coming season.

Calipari’s comments that Sealy “has gotten so much better” suggest the coaching staff had genuine expectations for expanded contributions from the young wing.

While the exact nature of the knee injury hasn’t been disclosed, the fact that it’ll need surgery suggests the recovery won’t be a short one.

The Hogs’ 2026-27 roster is expected to carry more depth than past Calipari-coached Arkansas squads, but losing a player projected among the program’s top 10 contributors before full practices even begin is a tough development.

The injury doesn’t directly affect the projected starting rotation, though it does thin the Razorbacks’ wing depth heading into the offseason buildup.

Updates on the surgery and recovery timeline are expected as more information becomes available.
