Rashaad Silver isn’t hard to read.
The three-star safety from Columbia, Ga.,, took official visits to Wake Forest, Arkansas and Georgia inside a single month — then told the Razorbacks they’d won before he even made it public.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back committed to Arkansas on Wednesday, choosing the Hogs over Georgia, Wake Forest, Auburn and Florida.
“It’s the relationship I build with Coach CJ and Coach D-Wil to this point,” Silver told 247Sports. “I’m a big relationship guy. I just feel like it’s the best situation for me to get on the field early and also somewhere I can get some of the best development.”
Coaches made the difference
The coaches Silver mentioned are defensive backs coach CJ Wilford and safeties coach Deron Wilson.
His relationship with Wilford started before Wilford ever reached Fayetteville from the days when Wilford was on staff at Georgia State.
“Coach CJ is one of the coaches I’ve been in contact with for a long time now since he was at Georgia State,” Silver said. “I was the first player in the Class of 2027 that he offered when he got to Arkansas.”
Silver also pointed to what he saw during his official visit to Fayetteville, specifically an up-close look at spring practice under Ryan Silverfield’s staff.
“I can definitely see them turning it around with all the new key pieces that they have with the coaching staff,” Silver said.
Position fit sealed it
Wake Forest wanted Silver as a receiver. Arkansas and Georgia both wanted him as a safety.
That distinction ended the conversation faster than any campus visit could.
“It really came down to what I wanted to be doing in college,” Silver said. “Arkansas is recruiting me as a safety.”
Silver is ranked the No. 92 safety nationally by Rivals and gives the Hogs their 24th commitment in the 2027 class.
He’s also the third Georgia-based pledge in this cycle, joining safety Jameer Cantrell of Buford and wide receiver Jabari Watkins of Thomas County Central.
Key takeaways
- Silver’s ties to CJ Wilford predate Arkansas — the relationship started at Georgia State and traveled with the coach to Fayetteville
- Wake Forest’s decision to recruit Silver as a receiver effectively removed itself from contention
- The Hogs now have three commits from Georgia in the 2027 class, reflecting a deliberate recruiting footprint in that state under Silverfield
