Razorbacks add Sun Belt standout infielder via portal

Arkansas just found its next infielder and he comes with a brother already planning to be in the fold.

Wills Maginnis announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Monday after spending his college career at Georgia State.

He becomes the fifth player the Hogs have pulled out of the transfer portal this offseason and the second infielder in that group alongside Charlotte’s Dawson Bryce. It’s hopefully filling a need that gave Dave Van Horn headaches last year.

The Newnan, Ga., native isn’t a small name in the Sun Belt. He earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors this past season after putting together one of the better lines in the league.

Hogs fans who watched the Razorbacks struggle to find consistent infield production late in the year should like what Maginnis brings to Fayetteville.

Maginnis started every single game for Georgia State in 2026. He hit .306 across 216 at-bats with 66 hits 13 doubles a triple and 8 home runs.

He drove in 42 runs and posted a .404 on-base percentage thanks to 31 walks against just 36 strikeouts.

Those numbers point to a hitter who controls the zone instead of chasing pitches out of it.

Speed shows up in his game too. Maginnis swiped 21 bags during the 2026 season which tells you Razorback coaches landed more than just a bat.

He also handled the glove well posting a .969 fielding percentage on 225 chances at the corner infield spot.

This wasn’t a one-year breakout either. Back in 2025 Maginnis hit .277 with six homers 37 RBI and 10 doubles while drawing 27 walks.

He set a Georgia State single-season record with 21 hit-by-pitches that year and earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors after a five-game stretch where he hit .524 scored 11 runs and drove in 12.

Family ties run through this commitment

The pickup carries an extra layer of connection for Arkansas. Maginnis has a younger brother Hayes Maginnis who’s already committed to the Razorbacks’ 2027 baseball class.

Having both brothers in the program gives Arkansas a head start on chemistry that most transfer additions don’t come with.

Wills also has an older brother Michael Maginnis who played outfield at Georgia State.

Baseball clearly runs in the family and Arkansas now gets a taste of it with two Maginnis brothers tied to the program moving forward.

Off the field Maginnis has stayed just as sharp. He earned 2026 CSC Academic All-District recognition made the Dean’s List in spring 2026 and landed on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll multiple semesters.

He plans to major in Sports Administration once he gets to campus.
