Treylon Burks opts out of Outback Bowl to enter NFL Draft
Treylon Burks becomes the first Arkansas player to opt out of playing in the Outback Bowl against Penn State and has made the decision to enter the NFL Draft.
He made the announcement Wednesday afternoon on social media:

“I have had many restless nights praying and talking with my family regarding this decision. With that being said I have decided to opt out of the bowl game and forego my senior season and declare for the NFL draft. Other than representing my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there has been no greater honor in my life than representing Warren and the entire state of Arkansas these past three years.
“I want to thank my grandparents and family for their guidance, Arkansas coaching staff for pouring themselves into me, and Shelby for always being there for me. To my teammates, my brothers, you have always been there for me, and your undying support means the world to me. Without y’all none of this would be possible.
“Last but not least, to the amazing fans of this great state, I know no matter where I go in this world you will always be in my heart and I hop I will always be in yours. I may be leaving the state, but Arkansas will always be home and I will never stop calling those Hogs. God Bless and Go Hogs.”
Most early projections have him as a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Burks is currently the No. 24 overall prospect in the draft, according to Mel Kiper’s Big Board. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has him projected to be taken by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 26th overall pick, and Pro Football Focus projects him to go 19th overall to the Miami Dolphins.
The Warren native set a single-season school record with six 100-yard receiving games this season. His 1,104 receiving yards in 2021 are the third-most for a season in school history. Burks finishes as a Razorback with 2,418 receiving yards, the fifth-most in school history.
Burks is fourth in the SEC in receiving yards with 1,104. He is one of just two players in the league (Jameson Williams) with at least 1,000 yards and 10 touchdown receptions. His 16.7 yards per reception also rank fourth in the conference.

Former Razorback Brett Goode: No problem replacing kickoff specialist

Notae, Davis, Williams key Hogs’ 86-66 win over Charlotte
JD Notae recorded his sixth career double-double while Jaylin Williams and Davonte Davis each produced career highs to lead No. 10-12 Arkansas (9-0) to an 86-66 victory over Charlotte Tuesday night at Bud Walton Arena.
It was Notae’s first double-double. He scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds — all on the defensive end — while Williams scored a career-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting with eight boards and Davis dished out a career-high eight assists with 18 points, two shy of his career high.
Charlotte made a run at Arkansas after making back-to-back 3-pointers to get to within nine (73-64) and force a Razorback timeout with 5:46 left. Arkansas came out of the break with a 10-0 run and, overall, ended the contest on a 13-2 spurt for the 20-point win.
Arkansas dominated the glass by getting 41 rebounds compared to just 21 by the 49ers. The Hogs had 15 offensive rebounds despite shooting an impressive 53.1 percent from the field. Charlotte only had 21 total rebounds, 17 defensive rebounds and four offensive rebounds – all lows by an opponent in the Musselman era. In fact, Charlotte has zero offensive boards at halftime.
Charlotte was led by Austin Butler with 14 points and six rebounds.
Arkansas travels to Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday for a neutral-site meeting with border rival Oklahoma. Tipoff in Tulsa’s BOK Center is set for 12:30 pm and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
FIRST HALF: Arkansas: 41 – Charlotte: 31
• With the game tied 14-14, Arkansas went on a 17-4 run to lead 31-18.
• However, Charlotte answered with an 11-4 run of its own get to with six, 35-29.
• Arkansas out-rebounded the 49ers, 22-11. Au’Diese Toney had seven for the Hogs.
• Arkansas had 14 second-chance points compared to zero for Charlotte. In fact, Charlotte had zero offensive rebounds in the first half.
• JD Notae led all scorers with 11 and Jaylin Williams added 10.
SECOND HALF: Arkansas: 45 – Charlotte: 35
• Arkansas shot an impressive 65.4 percent from the field (17-26) despite going just 1-of-6 from 3-point range.
• Davonte Davis had five of his eight assists in the second half as the Hogs had nine of their 14 in the period.
GAME NOTES
• Arkansas’ starting lineup was Davonte Davis – JD Notae – Au’Diese Toney – Jaylin Williams – Connor Vanover for the eighth straight game.
• Charlotte won the tip. It is just the second time this season the opponent has won the tip.
• Charlotte’s Austin Butler scored the game’s first points, a 3-pointer at 8:48. Connor Vanover scored the first points for Arkansas, an offensive put-back at 18:16.
• Chris Lykes was the first Razorback sub.
• Head coach Eric Musselman is 9-0 to start the season for the second straight season. He has started at least 8-0 in each of his three seasons in Fayetteville.
• Arkansas has won 17 straight regular-season games and 15 straight in Bud Walton Arena dating back to last season. Arkansas won 20-straight regular-season games during the 1990-91 season and the school record is 31-straight from Jan. 17, 1977, to Jan. 12, 1978.
• JD Notae had four steals. He entered the game sixth in the NCAA in steals per game (2.88).
• Arkansas has 54 overall wins and 37 wins at home in the Eric Musselman era. Those win totals are the best among SEC teams over the span.
• Arkansas extended its streak to 1,084 consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer made. It is the third-best current streak in the NCAA behind UNLV and Duke.

Burks, Brown named All-SEC first team; Pool on coaches’ second team
Treylon Burks and Montaric Brown were named the first team All-SEC Coaches team, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Senior linebacker Bumper Pool was named to the second team.
Burks posted one of the best seasons by a receiver in program history, recording 66 catches for 1,104 yards (16.7 yards per catch average) and 11 touchdowns, while also being a threat on the ground with 15 carries for 112 yards (8.0 yards per catch) and a touchdown.
He ranked second in the SEC in receiving touchdowns, third in receiving yards per game (92.0), fourth in receiving yards and sixth in receptions per game (5.5)
The Warren native set a program record totaling six 100+ yard receiving games in a season and became just the fourth receiver in school history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a year.
His 11 receiving touchdowns are tied for second-most in school history.
Burks is joined by Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams on the first team; the duo are the only receivers in the SEC to total at least 1,000 receiving yards and 10 receiving touchdowns this season.
Cobi Hamilton was the last Arkansas wideout to earn first-team honors from the coaches in 2012.
This is Burks’ first career appearance on the first team and third career postseason award from the coaches after being named to the second team as a kick and punt returner his freshman year in 2019 and a wideout in 2020.
Brown created havoc in the Hogs secondary by tying for the SEC lead with five interceptions, which is tied for the second-most in the FBS.
His five picks are tied for ninth in a single season in school history and make him the first Razorback to tally five or more interceptions in a season since Tramain Thomas in 2011.
Additionally, he added 53 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, five passes broken up, a fumble recovery and forced fumble this year.
The Ashdown native is one of just two players in the SEC to produce multiple interceptions with at least one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this season.
Brown is the first Arkansas cornerback since Ahmad Carroll in 2003 to earn first-team recognition from the league’s coaches.
For the second consecutive season Pool earned second-team recognition from the conference’s coaches.
The linebacker ranks second in the SEC and tied for 10th nationally, logging a career-high 120 tackles. His seven games producing double-digit tackles is tied for third nationally.
The Lucas, Texas, native also added 7.5 tackles for loss, which ranks second on the team, and two passes broken up to his season stat line.
Pool has tallied 344 career tackles, placing eighth in the program’s record book. Over the last three seasons (2019-21), his 315 tackles are second in FBS in that span.
Pool’s honor gives Arkansas at least one linebacker with All-SEC honors from either the coaches or Associated Press for the fourth straight year.
The Razorbacks won eight games during the regular season — the most regular season wins for the program since 2011 — and will face Penn State in the Outback Bowl at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
