Hogs run-rule Grambling for second straight day in 13-3 win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 3 Arkansas run-ruled Grambling for the second time in as many days to extend its season-long winning streak to eight games.

The Razorbacks (13-3) scored runs in all but one frame, powering past the Tigers (5-12), 13-3, in eight innings on Wednesday at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Chris Lanzilli and Brady Slavens each collected multiple hits and RBI as the Arkansas offense totaled double-digit runs for the fourth consecutive game.

Arkansas scored early and often, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first and tacking on three more across the second and third innings. After going scoreless in the fourth, the Razorbacks came back with seven runs over the final four innings before walking it off on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth.

True freshman Austin Ledbetter made his second career start, lasting 2 1/3 innings before the bullpen took over. Zack Morris, Heston Tole and Nick Griffin combined to toss 5 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Offensively, Peyton Stovall collected his second three-hit effort in as many days to raise his batting average to .339 for the season. All nine Razorback starters reached base as Arkansas sprayed 14 hits and drew a season-high 11 walks as well as two hit-by-pitches.

Lanzilli’s three-RBI afternoon was powered by his season-high three hits, while Slavens drove in three on two hits, including his third double of the season.

The Razorbacks now turn their attention to SEC play as Arkansas opens conference action at home against Kentucky (14-4) this weekend. The three-game set against the SEC East foe begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, on SEC Network+.

Webb’s run-rule grand slam walks off Hogs’ 14-1 win over Grambling

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A walk-off run-rule grand slam is not something you see at the ballpark every day, but it happened on Tuesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Braydon Webb’s grand slam in the bottom of the eighth powered No. 3 Arkansas (12-3) to a 14-1 run-rule win against Grambling (5-11), extending the Razorbacks’ season-long winning streak to seven games.

Arkansas entered the eighth inning with a 7-1 lead before scoring seven more runs in the bottom half of the frame to trigger the run rule and end the game early. Webb’s grand slam, his first hit of the season, was one of two Razorback home runs on the night.

Michael Turner continued his tear, swatting his fourth tater of the season in the fifth inning and driving in a team-leading three runs in the win. Peyton Stovall, meanwhile, collected a career-best three hits, including a double, and two RBI on Tuesday night.

Mark Adamiak started on the mound of the Razorbacks, turning in a career-long outing of four innings with a career-high six strikeouts. The right-hander allowed only one run on two hits and a walk.

The Hog bullpen was spectacular in relief of him, combining for seven strikeouts over four scoreless and hitless frames. Elijah Trest struck out two in his one inning of work, while Zebulon Vermillion fanned a batter in his perfect frame.

Gabriel Starks impressed out of the bullpen as well, striking out four in two scoreless innings as the Arkansas pitching staff combined for a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts.

Arkansas and Grambling conclude their two-game midweek series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. inside Baum-Walker Stadium on SEC Network+, with right-hander Austin Ledbetter getting the start for the Razorbacks.
