Hogs get back in win column for momentum going to SEC Tournament
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark — Arkansas (20-11, 7-9 SEC) earned their way back in the win column after taking down Texas A&M (7-19, 2-14 SEC), 78-65, to clinch the Razorbacks’ third 20-win season with Mike Neighbors at the helm.
Arkansas earned the win off a season-high 13 3-pointers and seven players with 7+ points, as well as 18 points off the bench. Samara Spencer led the Razorbacks for the second straight game with 19 points, as Arkansas broke a three-game losing streak to the Aggies.
Seniors Chrissy Carr and Avery Hughes were honored following the win.
Spencer got the scoring started with a layup, which started a 7-0 run. Texas A&M scored its first field goal after over three minutes into the contest to start a 4-0 run, but Spencer responded with a 3-pointer.
At the media timeout, Arkansas held a 12-6 advantage. Arkansas fell in a drought for nearly 2.5 minutes until Makayla Daniels made the backend of her two free throw attempts.
Jersey Wolfenbarger then started a 7-0 run all on her own, which was initiated with a 3-pointer. After one quarter, Arkansas led, 20-10.
Spencer got the Razorbacks their first basket of the second quarter after driving to the basket for a layup. Texas A&M nailed a 3-pointer to cut the lead to eight, but Spencer answered with a triple of her own.
Hot from the field, Texas A&M made its third straight field goal, but Arkansas held a 28-21 edge going into the media timeout with 4:49 left in the first half. Arkansas was in a scoring drought for over two minutes, but the Razorbacks forced four Texas A&M turnovers during that period.
Wolfenbarger then dug the Razorbacks out of the hole with a reverse layup. Poffenbarger then found herself on that scoreboard with 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, while Texas A&M was held from scoring a field goal for the remaining 6:09 of the quarter. Arkansas led 36-25 at the half.
Poffenbarger came up with a steal to set up Arkansas on offense. She then nailed her third 3-pointer of the contest, Arkansas’ first of three field goals to open the second half. After a Carr triple, Texas A&M called a timeout, as Arkansas led 44-25 with 7:57 remaining in the quarter.
Out of the timeout, the Aggies began a 5-0 run, which was started by a 3-pointer. The Razorbacks would respond, as Emrie Ellis came through with a layup.
The Aggies answered with another triple, but Ellis matched it with a shot from beyond the arc of her own. Arkansas continued to stay hot from the field, and after a Daniels 3-pointer, Arkansas led 57-34 with under five minutes left in the quarter.
Texas A&M went on a 7-0 run, while Arkansas was held from the field for the remaining four minutes of the quarter. The Razorbacks still held a 60-46 advantage going into the final quarter.
Spencer gave the Razorbacks their first field goal in nearly five minutes in the fourth quarter with a jumper. Daniels from beyond the arc extended Arkansas’ lead to 20, 68-48, with 7:23 left in the game.
Texas A&M scored seven straight points, while Arkansas was in a scoring drought for nearly three minutes. Spencer then banked in a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to extend Arkansas’ lead to 16, 71-55.
Arkansas came up with a pair of stops, but then Texas A&M knocked down a 3-pointer to cut Arkansas’ lead to 11 with 2:36 left in the game. Out of the timeout, Erynn Barnum knocked down a 3-pointer, Arkansas’ 13th of the game, to extend her point total to double digits. Texas A&M outscored the Razorbacks 10-7 in the final 2:30 of play, but Arkansas held on to win, 78-65.
Hogs Highlights
• Spencer led the way with 19 points off 7-of-15 from the field. She also logged five rebounds, one block and one steal
• Barnum logged 12 points and five rebounds, as well as a block and steal
• Daniels tallied 12 points, four rebounds and a career-high two blocks
• Poffenbarger had a productive day with nine points, four rebounds and a career-high five assists
• The bench put up 18 points on the day. Wolfenbarger created a big spark in the first quarter, finishing the day with nine points off 4-of-7 shooting, as well as three rebounds and a steal
• Ellis logged seven points, three rebounds and two blocks
• Carr registered eight points off two 3-pointers and six rebounds on her Senior Day
• Arkansas recorded a season-high 13 3-pointers, which was done by seven players scoring a triple, the most this season

Hogs blow solid start by Hollan against EIU in final game of series
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 9 Arkansas (5-2) was unable to secure its first sweep of the season, suffering a 12-3 loss to Eastern Illinois (4-2) in Sunday’s series finale at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The Razorbacks watched their two-run lead entering the sixth inning turn into a nine-run deficit by the end of the eighth. Arkansas’ bullpen was knocked around for 10 runs on eight hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings of relief work.
Hunter Hollan’s strong start on the mound was spoiled in the loss. The lefty, who twirled 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball, struck out four while allowing six hits and two walks. He departed the game with a two-run lead and in line for the win.
Through his first two starts of the season, Hollan has been as good as advertised. He boasts a 1-0 record with a 2.79 ERA and nine strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings on the year.
The Hogs provided Hollan with early offense thanks to Jace Bohrofen’s towering solo home run over the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Baseball Development Center in the second before John Bolton’s two-out RBI double in the fifth.
Tavian Josenberger’s two-out single to right scored Bolton from second, extending Arkansas’ fifth-inning lead to 3-1.
From there, however, things took a turn for the worst. With Hollan out, Eastern Illinois took it to the Arkansas bullpen, scoring one in the sixth, four in the seventh and six more in the eighth to open a commanding 12-3 advantage.
The Razorbacks recorded only four hits all game and were silenced over the final four innings. Josenberger finished with a team-leading two base knocks, while he, Bohrofen and Bolton each recorded one of the Hogs’ three RBI.
Arkansas hosts Illinois State in a midweek matchup at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, before welcoming in Wright State for three games this weekend. The series between the Razorbacks and Raiders gets underway at 3 p.m. Friday on SEC Network+.

Hogs try to come back, but fall short at Alabama, 86-83
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Arkansas was down 12 with 3:08 to play before making a feverish comeback attempt that ended with a game-tying 3-point attempt missing at the buzzer as No. 2 Alabama escaped with an 86-83 victory Saturday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.
Arkansas led by nine, 37-28, at the break but Alabama started the second on a 19-9 run to take its first lead since the first half (47-46) to force a Razorback timeout. The run was extended to 28-9 for a 56-46 Alabama lead. Davonte Davis ended the draught at 10:26.
From that point, the teams played evenly with Alabama leading by nine (64-55) with seven minutes left. Neither team scored for the next minute and Alabama pushed its lead to 12. Davis answered with a 3-pointer and Anthony Black followed with a layup.
However, Alabama’s Brandon Miller drained a 3-pointer with 3:08 left to give Bama a 12-point cushion once again.
Arkansas scored on three straight possessions, capped by a Nick Smith Jr., 3-pointer, to make it a 5-point game (75-70) with 1:45 remaining. Arkansas was down six with 22 ticks left before Ricky Council IV converted an old-fashion 3-point play. Alabama’s Nick Sears, who was 9-of-10 at the line, made two free throws only the see Smith answer with a 3-pointer to make it a two-point game with 10 seconds left.
Alabama’s Rylan Griffen made 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds left to give the Crimson Tide a three-point lead (86-83) with seven seconds left. Arkansas got a good look for the potential game-tying 3-pointer but it didn’t go down to give the Tide the win.
Alabama made 25-of-30 free throws, including 18-of-21 in the second half, while Arkansas was 20-of-39 at the line, including 12-of-20 in the second half.
Arkansas had three players score 20-plus points in the loss as Smith scored 24, Davis had 21 and Council had 20.
Miller led Alabama with 24 points. Jahvon Quinerly had 16 and Sears added 13. Noah Clowney pulled down 13 rebounds and Charles Bediako had 10 boards.
Arkansas stays on the road to play its final road game of the season, facing the nationally-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

• Arkansas scored first and led for 16:05.
• The last time Alabama led was 19-17 with 8:27 left. Arkansas then went on a 16-4 run to lead by 10 with 2:02 left.
• Arkansas led by as many as 11 twice, including 35-24 with 1:42 left.
• There were only six combined assists in the half, two by Arkansas, as each team shot just 33%.
• Anthony Black only played the first four minutes of the first half before picking up two fouls.
• Nick Smith Jr., led Arkansas with 10 points. Devo Davis and Ricky Council IV added eight each.
• Brandon Miller led Alabama with seven points.

• This was the first time since South Carolina (Mar. 2020) that three Razorbacks scored 20-plus in the same game. Versus South Carolina in 2020, Moses Moody scored 28, Justin Smith 22 and JD Notae 21.
• Ricky Council IV is now just 29 points for 1,000 in his collegiate career.
• Arkansas had its streak of 12 straight games shooting at least 44% from the field snapped. Arkansas shot 41.4% versus Alabama.
• Alabama shot 55.9% in the second half and 45.3% for the game.
• Arkansas had 12 steals, tying for the most by an Alabama opponent this year, and forced 17 Alabama turnovers, the second-most by the Crimson Tide in an SEC game this year.

McEntire’s pitching, Bohrofen’s hitting paces Hogs to win
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 9 Arkansas claimed their first series of the season on Saturday afternoon with a 10-3 victory over Eastern Illinois at Baum-Walker Stadium behind a solid outing from starter Will McEntire and a big day at the plate from Jace Bohrofen.
The Razorbacks wasted no time, scoring in each of the first three innings to claim an early lead. Jared Wegner’s two-out double was quickly converted into the game’s first run when Brady Slavens’ single to left-center field chased him home.
The pair of two-out knocks became a theme for the afternoon as the Hogs scored seven of their 10 runs with two down while collecting six two-out hits.
Tavian Josenberger took his turn with the two-out magic in the second inning, launching his second home run of the young season over the right field wall for a two-run blast and a three-run lead.
After the Panthers scratched out their first run of the game in the top of the third, Parker Rowland responded with a two-out, RBI-double to push the lead back to three runs.
After a couple of bumpy outings to start his year, McEntire returned to form on Saturday to earn the win.
The big right-hander retired the first six he faced before Kolten Poorman greeted him with a solo home run to left-center to open the third inning.
McEntire bounced back to retire the next two batters but a walk and a single put runners on the corners with designated hitter Ryan Ignoffo representing the go-ahead run coming to the plate, but McEntire caught Ignoffo looking to the threat and record his second strikeout. McEntire allowed just two hits to go with a pair of walks and four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
The Panthers threatened again in the seventh inning against reliever Koty Frank when pinch hitter Caleb Zalewski led off the inning with a solo homer into the left field bullpen to trim the Arkansas lead to two runs.
A two-out single brought the tying run to the plate but Frank ended that threat with a harmless ground ball to shortstop John Bolton.
Arkansas put the game away in the eighth inning, sending 10 men to the plate to score five runs on six hits. Bolton was followed by a single from Josenberger before a one-out walk to Wegner loaded the bases.
Slavens delivered again, this time with a single to right field. Bohrofen’s third of the day found its way into the left-center field gap for two runs to push the lead to five runs.
Back-to-back, RBI singles from Ben McLaughlin and Rowland put the game away for the Hogs.
Bohrofen’s three-hit game continued his hot start to the season. The junior had a pair of doubles and just missed a third when runners on base only moved up one base in the seventh to limit him to a single. Josenberger, Wegner, Slavens and Rowland all chipped in two hits apiece with McLaughlin coming off the bench to drive in two runs.

Smith starts, Diggs ends game early with walk-off game winner
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Hagen Smith started it and Kendall Diggs sent everybody out of a cold Baum-Walker early Friday happy.
Diggs, a sophomore from Olathe, Kan., delivered his second walk-off homer in the seventh inning as Arkansas mercy-ruled Eastern Illinois in the series opener Friday afternoon.
Smith had started on the mound and wasn’t as dominating as he was in the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas, last weekend, but he was good enough.
He lasted 4.2 innings and strick out six, scattering three hits and three walks.
“Today it’s a lot different elements and first home game, probably hyped up a little bit,” Razorbacks coach Dave Van Horn said later. “I just didn’t think that he commanded the ball like he can and will. But his stuff was really good.”
Smith came up big in that Friday game against the Texas Longhorns last week. He was solid against the Panthers, but didn’t just dominate.
“Last week everything was working,” Van Horn said, “as far as throwing strikes and being around the zone.”
By the seventh inning the Hogs were cruising behind Four different Hogs recording multiple hits. Peyton Holt, who got the start at second base in place of an injured Peyton Stovall, led the way with a pair of RBI singles.
Jace Bohrofen reached base four times for Arkansas with a single, two walks, a hit-by-pitch and two stolen bases.
The Hogs basically broke this one op jumped ahead with six runs on five hits in the top of the third. Hudson Polk was hit by the first pitch he saw before John Bolton and Tavian Josenberger reached with bunt singles.
Diggs worked a walk to load the bases, and Jared Wegner and Brady Slavens followed with singles to make it 4-0. Ben McLaughlin plated another run when he grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, and Peyton Holt, who made his first start as a Hog at second base, roped a single to left to make it 6-0.
By the seventh innings, the Hogs still needed three runs to invoke that new run-rule in place everywhere and Diggs delivered a three-run homer on a day when Arkansas piled up 11 hits in the win.
