Hogs complete series sweep of Vols with win Sunday
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas made it look routine again Sunday.
It was a lot like every other game in this series.
The Razorbacks started fast and throttled Tennessee, 7-2, to complete a big sweep that Dave Van Horn wanted to finish off after wins Friday and Saturday.
Ben Bybee started and lasted 3.1 before turning it over to Dylan Carter, who had to work out of a few jams, but got his sixth win of the year with 4.2 strong innings just finding a way to get people out.
The Hogs’ defense helped, turning a couple of double plays to end possible threats.
“We had a really good weekend in the field again,” Van Horn said. “We just kinda strung it together on offense. We left some people out there that could have come back to hurt us.”
Vols starting pitcher Chase Dollander led off by walking Razorbacks’ leadoff hitter Tavian Josenberger, who stole second and scored on a single by Peyton Stovall. A sacrifice to center by Brady Slavens scored Stovall and Jace Bohrofen drew a walk and scored on a single by Caleb Cali.
In all, it was a 3-0 start to the game for the Hogs and Bybee, who walked a couple of people in the first, but managed to get of it without giving up any runs.
Bybee loaded the bases in the second inning before not giving up another hit and the Hogs got a quick leadoff infield single from John Bolton. The Hogs loaded the bases when Kendall Diggs was hit by a pitch and Slavens drilled the first pitch down the right-field line all the way to the corner for a triple.
That made it 6-0 for Bybee to hang onto.
He shut down Tennessee in the third but after he hit another batter and gave up a walk in the fourth, Van Horn brought in Carter. The Vols managed to push across a couple of two-out runs before the Hogs got out of the inning with a 6-2 lead.
The Hogs got a solo homer from Josenberger in the sixth that would have brought home two runs if Bolton hadn’t gotten thrown out at second on a steal attempt. Josenberger drilled his seventh homer over the left field wall taking advantage of some gusty winds for a 7-2 lead.
Nobody really threatened in the later innings as Carter got the win, upping his record to 6-0. The Hogs are now 28-7 overall (10-4 in the SEC).
They will step out of conference play for a single game against UCA on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
