Five shutout innings by McGuire paces Hogs to 10-0 win over Trojans

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Tate McGuire’s career-long five shutout innings of work on the mound helped fifth-ranked Arkansas (35-7) dispatch in-state foe Little Rock (18-21), 10-0, in seven innings Tuesday night at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Tuesday night’s win marked Arkansas’ 12th run-rule victory of the campaign as well as its fourth shutout of the year. The Hogs improved to 10-1 in midweek contests with just two more midweek games remaining in the 2025 regular season.

McGuire, who earned the win to improve to 3-2 on the year, struck out three over his five scoreless frames while limiting Little Rock to just three hits.

Dylan Carter (1.0 IP, 1 SO) and Carson Wiggins (1.0 IP, 3 SO) emerged in relief and tossed two shutout innings with four strikeouts to lock down Arkansas’ combined three-hit shutout in seven innings.

The Hogs opened the scoring in the bottom half of the second inning on Brent Iredale’s solo blast to right.

The Razorback third baseman connected on his 11th home run of the season and drove in his 50th run of the season on one swing.

Arkansas broke through for five runs in the second before tacking on four more in the third.

Justin Thomas Jr.’s little league home run highlighted the third, ripping a triple to left center before scoring on one of Little Rock’s five errors.

Offensively, Cam Kozeal (3-for-4, 2B) and Gabe Fraser (2-of-3, 2 RBI) powered the Razorbacks with their multi-hit performances.

Logan Maxwell, meanwhile, turned in a multi-RBI effort, finishing the night 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The double midweek series finale between the Razorbacks and Trojans is set for 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, on SEC Network with Victor Rojas (play-by-play) and Todd Walker (analyst) on the call.

Arkansas, now 24-2 overall against in-state opponents since 1960, can finish 5-0 against its in-state foes this season with the double midweek series sweep.
