Boyd named to watch list for Earl Campbell Tyler Rose award

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas running back Rakeem Boyd has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, which recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football from the state of Texas.

It is the eighth watch list nod for a Razorback this summer and second for Boyd, after being named to the Doak Walker Watch List on July 17 with teammate Devwah Whaley.

The other Arkansas watch list honorees include: McTelvin Agim (Bednarik) on July 15, Cheyenne O’Grady (Mackey) on July 19, De’Jon Harris (Butkus) on July 22, Connor Limpert (Groza) on July 24 and T.J.Smith (Wuerffel) on July 25.

Boyd, a junior from Houston, Texas, recorded a team-best 734 yards on 123 attempts last season in his first year with the Razorbacks.

He averaged 6 yards per carry with 61.2 per game, scoring twice, while leading the team in all-purpose yards with 899.

Boyd put together three games of 100+ yards rushing in three contests, all against conference foes, with a season-best 113 yards against Vanderbilt on Oct. 27.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football and either born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

Hogs add really distant future games with Oklahoma State

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas and Oklahoma State have agreed to an additional two-game, home-and-home football series for 2032 and 2033, bringing the future non-conference total to four contests.

Along with the series set for 2024 (Stillwater) and 2027 (Fayetteville), the Razorbacks will travel to Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Sept. 18, 2032, while Arkansas will host the Cowboys on Sept. 17, 2033, at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

It will be the first time since 1980 the two teams have squared off against each other, when the Razorbacks defeated OSU, 33-20, in Little Rock.

Overall, Arkansas holds a 30-15-1 advantage in the series, claiming each of the last five meetings with the Cowboys.

The two squads have met 25 times in Little Rock, with the Razorbacks holding a 21-4 record in those matchups.

The old regional rivals first met on Oct. 12, 1912, in Fayetteville, with the program’s first win over the Cowboys coming a year later in a 3-0 victory on Oct. 18, 1913.

The Razorbacks kick off the 2019 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 3 p.m. against Portland State at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

ESPN Football Power Index not kind to Arkansas

Will Arkansas endure another painful season under Chad Morris or is this the turning point for years to come?

That is the question many are asking heading into Year 2 of this era. The fans’ level of pessimism is at a breaking point following a horrific 2-10 year.

Whelp, national analysts and others aren’t pulling punches either. Most you hear from think Arkansas is going to fall short of a bowl appearance. The few “high” on the hogs have them as a fringe bowl team…

According to ESPN.com’s Football Power Index (FPI), the Razorbacks don’t stand much of a chance in many games this year. Football is a game played on the field not on paper, we know that. Still, it’s hard to find optimism concerning the Arkansas football team in 2019.

This is just another stab at the Razorbacks assuming the team won’t respond after their worst statistical year in program history. Will they? We’ll find out in 18 days.
