Arkansas freshman Moore garners co-player of week honors in SEC
FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’ Robert Moore has been named the SEC’s co-player of the week after a strong performance at the plate and in the field against Gonzaga last weekend.
It is the first weekly honor for the freshman infielder and third by a Razorback this season, joining Heston Kjerstad (co-player) and Connor Noland (pitcher) in receiving the awards after the first week of games.
Arkansas had never won SEC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks until Kjerstad and Moore’s consecutive accolades. Moore is the first Arkansas freshman to receive player of the week honors from the league.
From Leawood, Kansas, Moore went 8-for-12 at the plate against Gonzaga, with a double and a home run to go with nine RBIs, four runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases. He paced the team in hits (8), RBIs (9), walks (4) and stolen bases (2) over the four-game stretch, finishing with a slash line of .667/1.000/.750.
His batting average (.667) against the Zags led the SEC last week, as well as his on-base percentage of .750, coming one hit and one RBI shy of the top marks in the conference in the two categories.
Moore recorded a hit in every game against Gonzaga, including multi-hit games in each of the last three.
Moore tallied multiple RBIs in all four games, including a three-hit, three-RBI showing in the third game of the series. He posted two singles and his first collegiate home run on a ball hit into the left field bullpen in the contest.
Saturday’s game also featured some sick handles from Moore, as his glove flip on a grounder to his left side in the eighth inning landed him at the No. 9 spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays.
He was also part of two double plays over the weekend, registering seven putouts and eight assists.
Moore and the Razorbacks hit the road for the first time this season for the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic, taking on No. 23 Oklahoma, Texas and Baylor on Feb. 28-March 1 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Storm’s pitching combines with Huffines homer for 5-1 win over Marist
FAYETTEVILLE — Senior Keely Huffine clubbed her first career home run in the bottom of the third as Arkansas never looked back in a 5-1 victory over Mariston Sunday afternoon at Bogle Park.
Senior pitcher Autumn Storms improved to 7-0 this season and struck out nine in just four innings of work.
Both team’s pitchers sailed through the first two innings and did not allow a baserunner.
Huffine jump-started Arkansas’ from the ninth position of the lineup, as she laced a two-run homer to left in the third.
Later in the inning with a runner on first, junior Braxton Burnside drove a line drive double off the leftfield wall to go up, 3-0. Junior Danielle Gibson capitalized with a humpback liner into left to cap off the four run third.
Marist scored its lone run in the top of the sixth inning on a base hit. Junior Ryan Jackson answered by towering a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to earn the run back.
Burnside and junior Kayla Green both collected multi-hit days.
Junior pitcher Mary Haff received the ball in a starting assignment and struck out four in her three frames. The Red Foxes registered five hits against Arkansas pitching, but all were singles.
Caroline Baratta led the way for Marist and was 2-for-4 at the dish.
Arkansas remains at home for the Wooo Pig Classic next weekend for six games from Thursday through Sunday.

Hogs overcome deficit against Florida, but can’t get to a win
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Arkansas had a three-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon, falling to Florida, 83-80, as Chelsea Dungee’s tying attempt at the buzzer didn’t go in.
A’Tyanna Gaulden and Amber Ramirez each had 17 points to pace the Razorbacks and Dungee had 2 for the game.
Turning point of game
Arkansas was nearly able to overcome what was once a 14-point deficit, shrinking the Gators’ lead to just one on a Ramirez three-pointer from the right corner.
A runner from Kiara Smith of the Gators stretched the lead back out to three.
After a stop, Dungee put up a three in transition that nearly went down. After a lengthy review, and a foul on the Hogs on the ensuing inbounds play, Dungee got a second look to tie it up after a steal, but it wouldn’t fall at the final buzzer.
Game highlights
• Gaulden’s 17 points set a new career high. She had an efficient afternoon, going 6-of-9 from the field.
• She also led the Hogs in assists with four.
• Ramirez scored 15+ for the third straight game.
• Dungee led the Hogs on the glass against the Gators, going for seven rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Rokia Doumbia also went for seven boards.
• Senior Kiara Williams was excellent off the pine, going for nine points and four rebounds, three of which came on the offensive glass.
Next game
The Razorbacks stay on the road for the second straight game, heading to Starkville to face Mississippi State.
That game will tip at 8 p.m. and air on the SEC Network.
