Ourigou reclassifies, gives Hogs an early boost for 2026

Arkansas basketball got a jolt of good news Tuesday.

Four-star center Caleb Ourigou is reclassifying from the 2027 class to the 2026 class, which means he’ll suit up for the Razorbacks this coming season instead of waiting a year.

He announced the move himself Tuesday morning on social media.

It didn’t take long for Ourigou to make this call. He’d only picked the Hogs over BYU, UConn and Kentucky last week before. Coaches and fans figured he’d reclassify eventually, and now it’s locked in.

The Overtime Elite big man ranks as the No. 8 center in the 2027 cycle and sits at No. 55 overall on the 247Sports composite.

His rating checks in at 0.9800, which is a strong mark for any post player this summer.

Arkansas built the relationship early

The Razorbacks didn’t wait around this offseason. They sent Ourigou an offer earlier in the summer, then brought him to Fayetteville for a visit. That trip mattered.

Sources told HawgSports that coach John Calipari and his staff impressed Ourigou enough during that visit to pull ahead of the pack.

From there, Ourigou kept climbing. He picked up offers from Auburn, BYU, UConn, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee and Virginia, among others, becoming one of the biggest risers in his class this cycle.

His summer performances backed it up.

During the Nike EYBL’s Memphis Session II, with Calipari and his staff watching in person, Ourigou averaged 12.5 points on 62.5% shooting, plus 10.3 rebounds and two blocks a game for NY Rens.

A big jump up the rankings

That stretch of games helped push Ourigou from No. 90 overall in the 247Sports 2027 rankings all the way to No. 55, a 35-spot climb.

247Sports recruiting analyst Dushawn London broke down why the jump made sense.

“He’s been one of the best bigs on the EYBL circuit and is a complete force in the paint,” London said. “He has a strong motor, an aggressive rebounder and will finish strong around the rim. Already one of the top stock rises I can see him taking another jump.”

Ourigou waited until after the Peach Jam Invitational to finalize his reclassification, since making the move earlier would’ve kept him out of that event.

He still turned in a strong showing there, leading his Rens squad to the quarterfinals without five-star teammate Anderson Diaz.

Now Arkansas gets him a full year sooner than expected, adding size and rebounding to Calipari’s group as the Hogs build toward the 2026-27 season.

Key takeaways

  • Caleb Ourigou is reclassifying from 2027 to 2026 and will play for Arkansas this coming season
  • He committed to the Hogs a week earlier over BYU, UConn and Kentucky
  • His stock rose fast this summer, climbing 35 spots to No. 55 overall in the 247Sports composite
