It didn’t take long for media to catch clause in new deal

USA Today columnist Dan Wolken was the first we saw to catch the clause in Jeff Long’s new contract at Kansas that is interesting:

Look at this from Jeff Long’s contract with Kansas. If Kansas basketball somehow got put on probation for the FBI stuff, Long’s contract would be automatically extended by the length of the probation. WOW.

And it didn’t take long for Kansas folks to point out his daughter attending Missouri. In case you didn’t know it, Kansas-Missouri is one of those sworn-enemy type deals.

While Jeff Long was AD at Arkansas, his daughter graduated from Fayetteville HS and chose to attend Mizzou. Now, with a daughter at Mizzou, Jeff takes the AD job at Kansas. Much respect for this close-knit fam whose love language is trolling the hell out of each other.

Congratulations to the university of kansas and their new AD, Jeff Long!

Perhaps Jeff Long could someday help restore Missouri and Kansas rivalry. His daughter currently attends Mizzou.

Here’s a grab-bag of some of the social media reaction to Long’s hiring with the Jayhawks:

Jeff Long was Arkansas’ AD for the last 10 years. He also served on the College Football Playoff selection committee. It’s clear what KU’s objective is: Bill Self runs the basketball program, so let’s get a football-centered AD to get that turned around.

I think #KU made a very smart hire in getting Jeff Long as Jayhawks new AD. He’s one of the most respected ppl amongst his peers and I’ve talked to several folks who have worked with him thru the years who say he’s the best guy they’ve worked for.

Great story by Jesse on Jeff Long and why he makes sense for KU, new chancellor. Read about new AD just minutes after the announcement: https://t.co/PhLtaz1sOk

Kansas is really stepping up and making Jeff Long the #2 paid AD in the Big 12 https://t.co/dmJaJhXi14

Everyone talking about Jeff Long hiring BERT now that he’s AD at Kansas is gonna be surprised as hell when Houston Nutt walks out during the introductory presser.

So Jeff Long is the new AD at Kansas. Little Rock people are already demanding 2 KU Basketball games per season in Little Rock or they will cut off money.

Kansas has given themselves a chance to improve their Football Program with the hire of Jeff Long as new Athletic Director. AD Long also has long and strong ties to Ann Arbor, Michigan which will also help Kansas increase their B1G opportunities.

I’ll just leave this here. Jeff Long and Les Miles are friends. https://t.co/pPHG5KVyK2

@ShehanJeyarajah Apparently Jeff Long wanted to get as far away from the College Football Playoff as possible. Mission accomplished.

Kansas hired Jeff Long as its new AD, and naturally, the Jayhawks are officially on *Brian Fantana voice* BERT WATCH, folks! https://t.co/jOCc1p0ytA

If this list doesn’t change, Jeff Long’s $1.5 million/year will make him the fourth-highest paid AD in the country. https://t.co/6diHUJ05ha FWIW, Zenger was No. 44 last year. #kufball #kubball

@cridings1 @HawgHoops Jeff long got ran off beecause first and foremost he wouldn’t fire Bert (who had the worst record of any coach to last 5 years at Arkansas) He also shifted money that was donated for the baseball team into the coffers of the football team.
