Razorbacks set to battle Indiana at Madison Square Garden

Arkansas will take its talents to the Big Apple this fall.

The Razorbacks will face the Indiana Hoosiers at Madison Square Garden as part of the Bad Boy Mowers Series in New York.

The two teams will meet on Nov. 17, a Tuesday, in what’s shaping up as one of the more intriguing nonconference dates on next season’s slate.

Game time and television details haven’t been released yet.

Ticket information is also still on the way, so fans hoping to catch the Hogs in person will need to keep checking for updates.

Rematch of sorts for these old rivals

This won’t be the first time these two programs have crossed paths.

The Razorbacks and Hoosiers have squared off five times dating back to 1949, and Arkansas holds a 3-2 edge in the series.

Two of those wins came in Bud Walton Arena, including a 71-64 decision in 2020.

Indiana enters the matchup fresh off an 18-14 season under first-year coach Darian DeVries, who went 9-11 in Big Ten play during his debut year in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers already have Garden experience from a season ago, splitting a pair of games there with a loss to UConn and a win over Louisville.

Calipari no stranger to Garden’s bright lights

Coach John Calipari knows Madison Square Garden about as well as any coach in the country.

He’s coached there 28 times across his career and carries a 16-12 record inside the historic building.

His first trip came all the way back in the 1991 NIT Final Four while he was leading UMass.

Calipari’s most recent MSG appearance also happened to be his first with the Razorbacks, when Arkansas knocked off then-No. 14 Michigan 89-87 in the 2014 Jimmy V Classic.

He’s also faced Indiana five times before, going 3-2 against the Hoosiers during his years at Kentucky.

Bad Boy Mowers marketing vice president Lindsey Keller says the pairing fits the event’s mission.

“This matchup represents what the Bad Boy Series is all about,” Keller said. “It features two teams from different conferences getting to compete, and where better to have it than Madison Square Garden?”

What it means for Hogs going forward

This will mark the Razorbacks’ second appearance at the Garden under Calipari, giving Arkansas another shot at a marquee nonconference win against a Big Ten opponent on a national stage.

It’s also a chance for the program to build more history in one of the sport’s most storied buildings before SEC play heats up.
