Texas linebacker Bryce Breeden didn’t make Arkansas wait long after his official visit.
The Bridge City, Texas, product announced his commitment to the Razorbacks on Friday evening, and the Hogs didn’t have to sweat it out against a light field.
He picked Arkansas over TCU, Purdue, Northwestern, Arizona and Michigan, a group of Power Four programs that had each put real effort into landing him.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound three-star went public with his decision at a ceremony at his high school at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Purdue had reportedly been making a hard push and was considered the leader in his recruitment coming out of his official visit to the Boilermakers.
Arkansas won out anyway, which says something about how the Hogs closed during what’s been a busy June on the recruiting trail.
The film on Breeden makes the interest from that many programs easy to understand.
As a junior at Bridge City last season, he recorded 109 total tackles 86 solo and 23 assists — along with 19 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, two blocked field goals and two pass breakups.
That’s a well-rounded production line for a player who’s still a year away from his senior season.
Breeden ranks as the No. 76 linebacker in the 2027 class and the No. 137 prospect in the state of Texas per Rivals.
How Arkansas built this one
The recruiting trail to Fayetteville was methodical. Arkansas extended an offer to Breeden on January 27, then hosted him for an unofficial visit on April 18.
He immediately scheduled an official visit for the weekend of June 19, which signals the kind of interest that makes recruiting coordinators exhale a little.
Defensive coordinator Ron Roberts and inside linebackers coach Cannon Gibbs also made an in-home visit on May 13, reinforcing what Arkansas already showed on the unofficial trip.
It was Roberts and Gibbs who handled Breeden’s recruitment from the start, which makes sense given his position.
The two were in his living room less than six weeks before he committed, and that personal attention clearly carried weight down the stretch.
Breeden spent the weekend of June 23 in Fayetteville for his official visit, the Razorbacks’ final visit event of the summer and made it official shortly after.
He made official visits to each of his other finalists as well, except Michigan, giving him a thorough look at his options before landing on Arkansas.
He becomes the second linebacker in this class, joining Fayetteville High’s Will Caston. The two could form a solid foundation at the position for a staff that has stockpiled defensive talent throughout this cycle.
The class picture at 23 commitments
Breeden’s addition gives Arkansas 23 commitments in the 2027 class and makes him the 16th new pledge since May 31.
That’s a significant volume of recruiting activity compressed into less than a month, and the staff isn’t done yet.
The class breaks down with 11 commitments on offense including quarterback Cason Myers, running back Jeremiah Dent, wide receivers Jabari Watkins and Darion Moseley, tight end Parker Keenan, interior linemen Odaefe Oruru, Bradley Sturdivant and Henry Frazier, and offensive tackles Alijah Shaw, Judah Gumbs and Teagan Parizek.
The defensive group now has 12 pledges. Interior linemen Mahonri Maiava, Eli Thornton and James Stewart; edge rusher Keith Richmond; linebackers Caston and Breeden; cornerbacks Kevin Grant, Stanley Peters Jr. and John Catlin IV; and safety Jameer Cantrell make up the group.
The balance across the two-deep is shaping up well for a staff that’s had to reload quickly.
There’s more business still on the table. The Hogs are a finalist for four-star wide receiver Alvin Mosley out of Rosharon, Texas, who plans to announce Saturday at 6 p.m.
Arkansas is also in the mix for Decatur, Ga., defensive back Rashaad Silver, who’s set to decide next Wednesday at 6 p.m. central.
Both decisions could push the class total higher before the weekend is out.
