FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Sam Pittman announced the team captains for the 2025 football season at his press conference Monday, naming leaders from each phase of the roster.
The Razorbacks open the season Saturday against Alabama A&M at Razorback Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m. on SEC Network. Fans can also listen to the game on ESPN Arkansas 99.5 in Fayetteville, 95.3 in the River Valley, 96.3 in Hot Springs and 104.3 in Harrison-Mountain Home.
Quarterback Taylen Green, offensive lineman Fernando Carmona Jr., linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr., defensive tackle Cam Ball and punter Devin Bale were voted captains by their teammates following fall camp. Pittman said the players’ leadership roles reflect the trust and confidence inside the locker room.
Green, a senior transfer from Boise State is entering his second season as Arkansas’s starting quarterback, threw for 3,154 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 602 yards and eight scores in 2024. His combination of size and mobility has made him a focal point of the Razorbacks’ offense.
Carmona, a redshirt senior who started every game at left tackle last season, moved to left guard during spring practices. At 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, he is one of the most experienced linemen in the Southeastern Conference, having appeared in 35 career games.
On defense, Sorey emerged as one of the Razorbacks’ most consistent performers last season after transferring from Georgia. The redshirt senior linebacker led Arkansas with 99 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss, and added an interception.
Ball, entering his fifth year at Arkansas, started all 13 games at defensive tackle in 2024. He recorded 47 tackles and 1.5 sacks while anchoring the interior of the defensive line.
On special teams, Bale becomes the first punter in recent program history to be named a captain. A junior from North Carolina, Bale earned preseason All-SEC honors and was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list after averaging 45.2 yards per punt last season. A second special teams captain will be named later this week, Pittman said.
Arkansas finished 6-7 last season, including a victory over Rutgers in the Liberty Bowl. The Razorbacks open 2025 with three straight home games before traveling to Auburn for their SEC opener on Sept. 27.
