Lykes named to watch list for top national college player Monday

Arkansas’ Chris Lykes was one of 50 players named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday.

Lykes is in his first season with the Razorbacks after being a part of the Miami Hurricanes the previous four seasons. He has also received other national preseason recognition, such as:

• The No. 20 returning player in college basketball (Andy Katz – March Madness).

• Named No. 51 on CBSSports.com Top 100 and 1 Best College Basketball Players entering 2021-22.

• One of 30 impact transfers (Jon Rothstein – College Hoops Today).

Lykes only played two games last season before suffering a season-ending injury. Prior to the injury, he was tabbed first team preseason All-ACC.

The previous two seasons, he led the team — and ranked among the ACC top 10 — in scoring as he averaged 15.4 points (10th in the ACC) as a junior (2019-20) and 16.2 points (ninth in the ACC) as a sophomore (2018-19). In three-plus seasons with the Hurricanes, Lykes scored 1,256 points with 251 assists and 100 steals.

Arkansas will open the 2021-22 season on Tuesday (Nov. 9) by hosting the Mercer Bears at 7 p.m.

Cam Little picks up another SEC Freshman of Week award

For the second time this season, Arkansas kicker Cam Little has garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors.

On a day when Mississippi State kept missing field goals, the Moore, Okla., native made them for a 31-28 win that got the Razorbacks bowl eligible with a sixth win.

He drilled 3-of-4 field goals, with makes from 46, 48 and a career-long 51 yards.

Little became the first Arkansas kicker since at least 1997 to connect on three field goals of more than 45 in the same game.

His 51-yard field goal was the longest by a freshman Razorback kicker since Zach Hocker’s 51-yarder in 2010 against South Carolina.

The rookie leads all FBS freshmen with 14 made field goals this season.

Earlier this season, Little connected on four field goals in Arkansas’ 20-10 victory over No. 7 Texas A&M to earn his first career freshman of the week recognition.

Little is the first Razorback to win the award twice in the same season since Dre Greenlaw (2015).

Little is up to $140 in donations to Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas. He is contributing $10 for every made field goal to the cause.

The Razorbacks travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU this weekend at 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network.
