Hogs’ Jared Wegner picks up first SEC weekly player award
Hogs’ outfielder Jared Wegner has been named the SEC Player of the Week.
Wegner began his Razorback career by slashing .545/.643/1.365 (6-for-11) with four extra-base hits, including two home runs, and eight RBI over three games in the College Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field.
Wegner had at least one hit, reached base at least twice and scored at least one run in all three games, leading the Hogs to wins over Texas and TCU.
In Friday’s season-opening win against Texas, the graduate transfer from Creighton went 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. He followed up that performance with a 3-for-4 night against TCU on Saturday, recording a double, a home run and three RBI against the Horned Frogs.
His finish to the weekend was even louder.
The Kearney, Neb., native went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a triple, a home run and a weekend-high five RBI in Arkansas’ run-rule win over Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon.
Wegner and Arkansas now turn their attention to Grambling. The Razorbacks will host the Tigers at 3 p.m. Tuesday in a rare midweek home opener at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Wacky schedule forces some changes for Hogs’ special events
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas is starting to add key dates for fans for football season set for this year.
Homecoming is set for Oct. 21 when the Razorbacks host Mississippi State and Family Weekend set for Sept. 9 when the Hogs play Kent State.
Arkansas’ homecoming matchup with the Bulldogs will come after the Razorbacks have played four consecutive road games.
The Hogs’ first-ever matchup with Kent State will be the team’s second game of the season but the first in Fayetteville after opening the season against Western Carolina at War Memorial Stadium.
The wackiness in that scheduling will see a delayed start for football in the home stadium and going for a month in the middle of the schedule without a home game. That’s thanks to the SEC schedule-makers.
The U of A Sports Hall of Honor will also take place that weekend to celebrate the careers of the 2023 inductees.
The Razorbacks begin spring practice under fourth-year coach Sam Pittman on March 9.
Arkansas will work through 15 practices, including the team’s spring game on Saturday, April 15 as part of Wooo Pig Weekend.
The Hogs will kick off the busy Saturday at noon with No. 4 softball meeting UAB at Bogle Park at 3 p.m. and the No. 7 baseball team squaring off against Tennessee at 6 p.m. at Baum-Walker Stadium.
