Razorbacks finish sweep of Auburn in opening SEC series Sunday.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Maybe all the concern over Arkansas’ pitching staff was for nothing.
Apparently they’ve figured it out.
Cody Adcock started against Auburn on Sunday and delivered six solid innings, not giving up any runs and just a single hit that did no damage with no walks and the Razorbacks closed out a sweep in the first SEC series of the season, 5-0, on Sunday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.
“We were hoping to get four innings out of Cody and got six,” Hogs coach Dave Van Horn said.
The only game that was really close in all of them was the opener because the Hogs didn’t break that game open until the fourth inning.
The temperatured was announced at 40 degrees for first pitch, but that was obviously a reading in the sunshine. It felt much colder and there wasn’t much wind throughout the game.
The game was tight until the third inning when Tavian Josenbarger got a two-out double, Peyton Stovall was hit by a pitch then Jared Wegner hit a towering 470-foot homer to left field that landed up past the Hog Pen for a 3-0 lead.
The Hogs added to it in the fourth when Jace Bohrofen led off with a hit and another double by Kendall Diggs set it up for a 2-RBI single to left field by Harold Coll.
Austin Ledbetter worked the seventh and eighth innings. Gage Wood got one out in the ninth, but gave way to Hagen Smith out of the dugout, who got the final five outs.
“It wasn’t super pretty by any means,” Van Horn said. “That was the only disappoing part.”
The Hogs are now 18-2 on the season and 3-0 in the SEC.
They will host Southeast Missouri for a Tuesday game at 3 p.m. and the long home stretch will end with a road trip to Baton Rouge to play LSU beginning a three-game series Friday night in a game on ESPN2.
Sweetness again! Hogs down top-seeded Kansas to advance

For the third straight season, the Razorbacks are headed back to the Sweet 16 with a 72-71 win over top-seeded Kansas on Saturday afternoon.
Davis was spectacular in the second half and Rick Council IV was clutch down the stretch. Davis poured in 25 points, including 21 in the second half, to help erase a 12-point deficit in the second half. After Davis fouled out late, Council sealed the victory by scoring 11 of the Hogs’ final 15 points, including the final five from the line.
A Jordan Walsh 3-pointer with just under nine minutes remaining capped an 11-0 run and put Arkansas in front for the first time since scoring the game’s first points. The run set up a back-and-forth final stretch.
Arkansas trailed 35-27 at the half despite a slow start, trailing by as much as 10 points. The Razorbacks held Kansas to just 1-for-7 from 3-point range while out rebounding the Jayhawks 17-15. Kansas, however, outscored Arkansas 22-14 in the paint. Council led all scorers with 10 points to go with three rebounds and three assists.
Davis’ 25 led all scorers and was one shy of his career-best. His outstanding second half saw him go 7-for-9 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Davis’ seven field goals were half of the Hogs’ 14 in the second half. Council scored 11 of his 21 points in the second half. Kamani Johnson was key late with a putback to give Arkansas the lead to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds. Walsh added 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
Arkansas advances to the program’s 14th Sweet 16 and will take on the winner of UConn/St. Mary’s at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas next week.
Razorbacks win 12 in row, clinching series with Auburn
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — No. 7 Arkansas (17-2, 2-0 SEC) clinched its fifth consecutive weekend series win against Auburn (13-5-1, 0-2 SEC) with a 9-3 triumph on Saturday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Saturday’s win was the Razorbacks’ 12th in a row, one shy of matching their longest winning streak since 2010. Arkansas, which has now won six straight series on SEC Opening Weekend, will go for its third consecutive weekend series sweep of the season in tomorrow’s finale against Auburn.
Arkansas’ offense smothered Auburn’s pitching from the start, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first thanks to Kendall Diggs’ two-out, bases-clearing double. The Razorback designated hitter hammered the first pitch he saw into the gap in left center, scoring Tavian Josenberger, Peyton Stovall and Brady Slavens on one swing.
After the Tigers got a run back in the top of the second, Josenberger jacked a two-run homer to left in the bottom half of the inning to extend the Hogs’ lead back to three.
It was more than enough run support for Arkansas starter Will McEntire, who spun six strong innings to improve to 4-0 on the year and record his second quality start in as many outings. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits, including two harmless solo homers, and two walks while matching his season high in strikeouts with six.
With McEntire on the mound, the Hogs tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fifth, effectively putting the Tigers away for good. A bases-loaded walk to Diggs was followed by an RBI single by Harold Coll and a pinch-hit RBI single by Hunter Grimes. John Bolton completed the four-run rally with his sacrifice fly to deep center, which brought home Diggs.
Diggs finished Saturday’s ballgame with a team-leading two hits and a team-best four RBI. For the season, he is slashing .327/.457/.727 with six home runs and 20 runs batted in, both of which rank second most among all Hog hitters.
Leading by six runs after six innings of play, Arkansas handed the ball over to emergent relief ace Dylan Carter, who locked down the final three frames. The right-hander twirled three scoreless innings with three strikeouts, earning his second save of the season while preserving the Razorbacks’ 9-3 series-clinching win.
Arkansas will have an opportunity to pick up its first sweep against Auburn since 2018 in the series finale, which is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19. Brett Dolan (play-by-play) and Troy Eklund (analyst) will have the call on SEC Network+.

DES MOINES, Iowa — For the third straight year, Arkansas will be facing a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament when the No. 8 seed Razorbacks face No. 1 seed Kansas (ranked No. 4-5) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament West Region on Saturday (Mar. 18). Tipoff is set for 4:15 p.m. and the game will be televised on CBS.
The Jayhawks will be without coach Bill Self, who made the announcement Saturday morning he would not be on the sidelines for the game with the Razorbacks.
“Well I’m feeling much better,” Self told Greg Gurley. “I’ve got more energy. I’ve been with the team all week on a limited basis, you know, in practice. But I’m there every day and doing a lot of sitting in practice, I’ve never really done that. But I’m getting better at that I guess. But I feel better, but still, I’m not ready to coach the game.”
We’ll see if that works to the Hogs’ advantage or not.
• Arkansas and Kansas have me on 13 previous occasions. The Jayhawks own an 8-5 advantage in the series.
• This is the second time Arkansas has faced Kansas in the NCAA Tournament. Then No. 2 Razorbacks (also seeded second) lost 93-81 to then No. 12 Kansas (seeded No. 3) in the 1991 NCAA Elite 8 in Charlotte.
• Arkansas is coming off a first-round win over Illinois. This is the first time since 1996, ’95 and ’94 that the Razorbacks have won three straight NCAA openers.
• For the third straight year, Arkansas will face a No. 1 seed. Previously, Arkansas lost to No. 1 seed (No. 3 ranked) Baylor in the 2021 Elite 8 and defeated No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga in the 2022 Sweet 16.
• Ricky Council recorded his first double-double as a Razorback and the third for his career in the win over Illinois. He had 16 points (11-of-12 at the free throw line) and pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds, including eight defensive.
• Anthony Black is THE ONLY player in the SEC to rank among the top 25 in five major categories (Pts • Rebs • Asts • Stl • Blk). He ranks 3rd in STEALS (2.00), 4th in ASSISTS (4.06), 18th in POINTS (12.82), 22nd in REBOUNDS (5.11) and 23rd in BLOCKED SHOTS (0.62).
Big fourth inning lifts Razorbacks past Auburn in SEC opener
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Brady Slavens’ three-run blast punctuated a five-run fourth inning and helped power No. 7 Arkansas (16-2, 1-0 SEC) past Auburn (13-4-1, 0-1 SEC), 7-2, on Friday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Friday’s win was the Hogs’ 11th in a row, two shy of their longest winning streak since 2010. Arkansas can clinch its sixth consecutive SEC Opening Weekend series win and its fifth consecutive weekend series win against Auburn tomorrow.
Hunter Hollan, making his first Friday start as a Razorback, turned in his second quality start of the season, twirling six strong innings to improve to 4-0. The lefty struck out three, limiting the Tigers to two runs on six hits and three walks.
Auburn took an early two-run lead, but Arkansas used its five-run fourth inning to take control of the ballgame. Back-to-back walks to Peyton Stovall and Jared Wegner to start the inning set Slavens up for a big moment, and he delivered.
The SEC’s active leader in career RBI swatted the go-ahead three-run blast off the scoreboard in right center to put the Hogs up. RBI singles by Parker Rowland and Tavian Josenberger later in the inning extended Arkansas’ advantage to 5-2.
Slavens, who finished the game with a team-high three RBI, now has 160 career RBI, most among all active SEC hitters.
Arkansas would tack on two more runs in the sixth, scoring one on Stovall’s sacrifice fly before Wegner’s single brought home another. Wegner, who boasts a team-leading 11-game hitting streak, finished 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two walks, raising his season slash line to .400/.535/.831 while increasing his team-leading RBI total to 30.
Hagen Smith, making his first relief appearance of the season, emerged from the bullpen in the seventh and was dominant. The left-hander, who was used as the Razorbacks’ Friday starter through the first four weekends of the campaign, spun three hitless innings with five strikeouts to lock down Arkansas’ 7-2 win and secure his third career save.
The Razorbacks will go for their fourth consecutive weekend series win of the season tomorrow afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.
First pitch in game two between Arkansas and Auburn is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday on SEC Network+ with Brett Dolan (play-by-play) and Troy Eklund (analyst) on the call.
