Wehiwa Aloy’s near-cycle paces Hogs to 8-6 win over Michigan
ARLINGTON, Texas — Wehiwa Aloy came a triple short of the cycle in a four-hit performance, powering No. 5 Arkansas (6-1) past Michigan (4-3), 8-6, in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series finale at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
With Sunday’s win, the Razorbacks finished the weekend at Globe Life Field with a 2-1 record, their fourth winning record in as many trips to the home of the Texas Rangers. Sunday’s win also moved Arkansas’ overall record to 6-1 through the first seven games of the year, its best seven-game start to a season since 2021 when the Hogs began 7-0.
Aloy reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances Sunday, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. The Razorback shortstop recorded two singles, a double, a solo homer and a walk during his big day at the plate.
He started out with a double to left field in the bottom of the first, coming around to score later in the inning as Arkansas jumped ahead, 2-1, after falling behind by a run in the top half of the first. After drawing a walk in the second, Aloy’s next big swing came in the third inning as he collected his first of two singles and drove home a run in the process.
In the fifth, Aloy socked a two-out solo shot down the line in right, hammering a 2-1 pitch off the foul pole to put Arkansas up, 8-1. He rounded out his four-hit game with a two-out single in the seventh, raising his season slash line to a team-best .417/.563/.833 with three homers, tied for the team lead with his younger brother Kuhio, and seven RBI.
While Aloy set the tone offensively, Arkansas starter Gage Wood was dominant through his first two innings of the ballgame. The right-hander recorded all six outs via strikeout, allowing an unearned run on a fielding error in the first.
Wood, however, departed the game as he warmed up on the mound in the top of the third after experiencing shoulder soreness. In relief, righty Dylan Carter fired two shutout frames with a strikeout to earn his second win of the season.
Left-handers Cole Gibler (1.0 IP, 3 SO) and Colin Fisher (1.0 IP, 2 SO) also emerged from the bullpen and combined for two scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Michigan threatened with a pair of runs in the sixth before adding one in the eighth and scoring two more in the ninth, but relievers Parker Coil (1.2 IP, 1 SO) and Tate McGuire (0.1 IP) held strong.
McGuire stepped onto the mound with two outs in the ninth and retired the game’s final batter on a groundout to Nolan Souza, stranding runners at second and third to preserve Arkansas’ 8-6 win and earn his first career save.
Along with Aloy, Charles Davalan also turned in a multi-hit game as well as a multi-RBI performance in the Razorbacks’ win over the Wolverines. The Hogs’ starting left fielder went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and a pair of RBI.
Up next, Arkansas returns inside the friendly confines of Baum-Walker Stadium for a season-long 10-game homestand beginning with Grambling (4-3). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, on SEC Network+.

Hogs out-rebound Mizzou, dominate second half in 92-85 win
FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas out-rebounded Missouri, 20-15, in the second half and out-scored Mizzou, 51-37, for a 92-85 victory over the No. 15/16 Tigers on Saturday night at Bud Walton Arena.
On a night Arkansas celebrated its 1990 Final Four team, which averaged 95.2 points per game that season, the Razorbacks had five players score in double figures and scored its most points in an SEC game this season (its fourth-most of the season overall).
Arkansas, down seven at halftime, started the second half on a 14-6 run to grab a 55-54 lead. Mizzou answered to go up three (58-55).
Karter Knox triple tied the game at 58 with 13:34 to go. The lead bounced back-and-forth over the next three minutes, but neither team leading by more than one point over the span.
Zvonimir Ivisic put the Hogs up one, 62-61 with 10:08 to play, on a fastbreak dunk and the Razorbacks held the lead the rest of the game.
Up 64-63, Arkansas went on a 12-2 run to go up 11 for its largest lead of the game (76-65) with six minutes left.
Missouri didn’t go away, cutting its deficit to five twice. However, Arkansas went up 10 (85-75) with two minutes left after a pair of D.J. Wagner free throws.
The Tigers once again got to within five twice, but Wagner and Ivisic went 3-of-4 at the line down the stretch for the win.
Ivisic went 6-of-8 from the field (with three dunks) and was 7-of-7 at the line to score 20 points.
Johnell Davis added 18 points, had four assists and four steals.
Wagner, who had 12 second-half points, finished with 17 points with career highs of 8 free throws made and 10 free throw attempts.
Knox had 14 points and Adou Thiero finished with 11 points and four assists.
Missouri was led by Mark Mitchell’s 17 points and seven rebounds. Marcus Warrick had 16 points while Caleb Gill had 13.
Up next, Arkansas will host Texas on Wednesday.
FIRST HALF: Missouri 48, Arkansas: 41
• Arkansas led early and there were four ties and four lead changes before Mizzou used a 14-2 run, with a 10-0 spurt, to lead 32-25.
• The Razorbacks made several charges but Mizzou answered each time, several times with 3-pointers. The last was a triple by Mizzou at the buzzer to give the Tigers their seven-point lead.
• Both teams shot over 50% with Mizzou making 51% of its shots and Arkansas making 54%. However, the Tigers were 9-of-19 from 3-point range in the half while Arkansas was just 1-of-10.
• The Razorbacks kept it close by blocking three shots, getting seven steals and forcing 12 turnovers.
• The key stat was Mizzou out-rebounding Arkansas 20 to 8.
• Caleb Grill led Mizzou with 13 points off the bench.
• Karter Knox, Zvonimir Ivisic and Johnell Davis each scored nine points for the Hogs.
• Johnell Davis continued his strong defensive play with three steals in the half.
SECOND HALF: Arkansas 51, Missouri: 37
• Arkansas shot 56% from the field, going 5-of-8 (62.5%) from 3-point. Missouri was held to 34% from the field and 23.5% (4-of-17) from 3-point.
• Arkansas was 18-of-24 from the free throw line and Mizzou was just 9-of-12.
• Arkansas scored 51 points, its best point production of the second half this season. Arkansas score 50 second-half points versus Oakland. It was the third-most points in any half this season as Arkansas scored 60 in the first half versus UMES and 54 in the first half versus NC A&T.
• Wagner led Arkansas with 12 second-half points and Ivisic had 11. The two combined to go 11-of-12 at the free throw line in the half.
• Jonas Aidoo had five second-half rebounds to help Arkansas out-rebound the Tigers 20-15 in the second half.
GAME NOTES:
• For the seventh-straight game, Arkansas’ starting lineup was D.J. Wagner, Johnell Davis, Karter Knox, Adou Thiero and Zvonimir Ivisic.

Aloy’s pinch-hit double, Root’s domination on mound lifts Hogs past TCU
ARLINGTON, Texas — Kuhio Aloy’s pinch-hit two-run double in the seventh backed up Zach Root’s dominant 10-strikeout performance on the mound, leading No. 5 Arkansas (5-1) to a 2-1 win against No. 22 TCU (5-1).
The was in front of an announced crowd of 17,994 fans Saturday night in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Saturday’s attendance marked the second-largest crowd for a college baseball game in Globe Life Field history behind a crowd of 20,295 on Feb. 18, 2023, set during the Arkansas-TCU game in the Higginbotham College Baseball Showdown.
Making his second start as a Razorback, Root shined on the big stage with a masterful pitching performance against the top 25 ranked Horned Frogs.
The left-hander, who transferred to Arkansas from ECU, spun five innings of one-run ball with 10 strikeouts, matching his career high, while allowing only two hits and issuing a pair of walks in the outing.
After exchanging zeroes for the game’s first three innings, TCU broke through first in the bottom of the fourth. A fielding error brought home a run, but Root hunkered down to strike out the next two batters and strand the bases loaded.
Fellow left-hander Landon Beidelschies, who started on the mound in the finale of the Opening Weekend series against Washington State, entered in relief of Root and fired 2.2 shutout frames to earn his second win of the year, silencing the Horned Frog offense and giving the Razorback bats an opportunity to come alive in the top half of the seventh inning.
Consecutive walks to Logan Maxwell and Brent Iredale to lead off the inning set the table for Cam Kozeal’s sac bunt, which moved runners up to second and third.
When Aloy came to the plate as a pinch hitter for Kendall Diggs to face a left-handed pitcher, TCU responded by removing starter Tommy LaPour and bringing in a right-hander from the bullpen.
Aloy, however, did not flinch, hammering the very first pitch he saw from Horned Frog reliever Gianluca Shinn to left field for a two-run double, putting the Razorbacks ahead for the first time in the ballgame.
Arkansas’ one-run lead would prove to be all it needed, as Beidelschies and Christian Foutch (1.1 IP, 1 SO) combined for four scoreless innings in relief.
Foutch, who earned his first save of the season, ran into trouble in the bottom of the ninth, working around a single, two walks and an error that allowed TCU to put the game’s tying run at third base with two outs.
The hard-throwing right-hander stranded Horned Frog base runners at second and third with a game-ending strikeout to seal the Hogs’ win.
Arkansas closes out the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series from inside the home of the Texas Rangers Saturday morning against Michigan.
First pitch between the Razorbacks and Wolverines is set for 11 a.m. on FloCollege.
