Razorbacks hang 15 runs on Omaha in first midweek tilt

After a quiet weekend at the Round Rock Classic, the Arkansas bats exploded Wednesday afternoon for a 15-3 victory over the Omaha Mavericks.

The Razorbacks struck first for just the third time in seven games, courtesy of an RBI double by junior second baseman Robert Moore. The Mavericks scored the next two runs, one against sophomore righty Mark Adamiak in the second inning, and one against sophomore righty Heston Tole in the fourth.

After falling behind 2-1, Arkansas rallied for five runs in the fourth, beginning with a solo home run by senior right fielder Brady Slavens to tie it. Seniors Jalen Battles and Michael Turner kept the pressure on with back-to-back singles, and Battles scored to retake the lead on a fielding error by the left fielder.

Moore recorded another RBI with a bases-loaded walk, the third free pass of the inning, and senior designated hitter Chris Lanzilli poured it on with the Hogs’ first bases-loaded hit of the season, a two-run double to left field.

The bats stayed hot in the fifth inning, as the first seven hitters collected hits. Battles and senior left fielder Zack Gregory scored on two-run homers by Turner and freshman first baseman Peyton Stovall, respectively. Both longballs were their first with the Razorbacks.

Sophomore third baseman Cayden Wallace and Moore followed with singles, and Lanzilli scored Wallace with a third straight single. Moore scored on a wild pitch, and Lanzilli came home on a sacrifice fly by Turner.

After sophomore righty Gabriel Starks issued a bases-loaded walk to bring the score to 13-3 in the eighth, the Hogs wasted little time getting that run back. Gregory led off with a single and advanced to second on the Mavericks fifth error of the game, and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Wallace. Lanzilli picked up his second RBI double of the day, scoring the 15th and final run in Wallace.

Senior left-handed pitcher Evan Taylor earned his first win as a Razorback, tossing two perfect innings.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to return to action at 3 p.m. Friday against Southeastern Louisiana, a contest that can be streamed on the SEC Network+.
