Strong start for Arkansas on first day at Georgia Tech meet

Arkansas sent 11 swimmers and one diver to finals and achieved nine individual lifetime-bests on the first day of competition in the Georgia Tech Invitational.

ATLANTA — Arkansas sent 11 swimmers and one diver to finals and achieved nine individual lifetime-best times on the first day of competition in the Georgia Tech Invitational at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.

 The Razorbacks sit in fourth place with 224 points through six events.

Three other SEC schools make up the top three as Auburn is first with 346 points, Florida is second with 246 and Alabama is third with 228.

 After swimming the 10th fastest time in the nation (4:43.98) in the 500 freestyle prelims, freshman Ayumi Macias won the event final with a time of 4:42.39, which is the eighth quickest in the country this year. Macias’ shaved 14.50 seconds off of her previous personal best heading into the meet. Aiden Lister swam a season-best 4:49.08 in the 500 free prelims before swimming to an eighth-place finish in the finals with a time of 4:51.03. The duo combined to score 43 points in the event.

In addition to Macias, eight other Razorbacks finished in the top 10 as Chelsea Tatlow finished second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.50. Nicole Gillis finished third in the 3m springboard with a prelim score of 285.75 and a final score of 308.95, both zone qualifying scores.

Arkansas recorded seven NCAA ‘B’ cut times with two in the 500 free by Macias and five in the 200 IM by Tatlow, Mary Margaret Soderberg and Jessie Garrison. Macias, Tatlow and Soderberg swam ‘B’ cuts in both the prelims and finals.

The Razorbacks totaled 18 individual season-bests.
