NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Arkansas senior Moses Kingsley will open the 2016-17 season as the Preseason SEC Player of the Year as voted by the media and released Wednesday morning prior to the league’s annual media day in Nashville, Tennessee.

Kingsley is coming off second team All-SEC honors and was named to the SEC All-Defensive team as a junior before removing his name from the NBA Draft and returning for his senior year.

He becomes the third player in program history to earn Preseason SEC Player of the Year honors, joining Ronnie Brewer in 2005-06 and Joe Johnson in 2000-01. Arkansas has 15 preseason All-SEC selections from 11 different players since entering the league prior to the 1991-92 season.

The Abuja, Nigeria, native posted 16 double-doubles last season, the most of any returning high-major player in the country. He finished the 2015-16 regular season as one of five high-major players in the nation averaging at least 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game and was one of three players in the country with multiple games of 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

The Razorbacks were picked to finish fifth in the league behind Kentucky, Florida, Texas A&M and Georgia. Arkansas has been picked in the top half of the league four times in the last six years and has finished higher than its preseason pick in each of the last three seasons.

Kingsley and the Razorbacks open the regular season on Nov. 11, welcoming Fort Wayne to town who was picked to win The Summit League regular season championship.
